I always hesitate to post a review because most of the time lots of people have already done so for the cigars I smoke and are better at it than I am! I figure this just adds :2 to the discussion.
I just couldn't wait any longer. I picked up 4 of these on Thursday and was waiting for warmer weather before lighting up. It looked warmer today (but as I found out it is still pretty chilly and windy) so I headed out to the patio with the crossword puzzle.
As I pulled the cigar out of the cello the cap broke. Hmmm what is going on here? Then I went to cut it and it just crumbled and some of the wrapper came off. Uh oh. I always moisten the head before lighting and a piece of stem came out in my mouth. By this time I have noticed it is not as warm as I thought and I am wondering if I made a mistake. But I press on.
It lights up great and burns perfectly so no complaints there. There is a fair amount of spiciness (the black pepper kind) on the back of my throat and a nice leather tast and aroma. The draw is pretty loose thanks to the gaping hole left over from the cut/stem removal but not in too bad.
The ash holds on like a champ...1/3 of the cigar has burned and not a flake has fallen. It even resisted a mild tap after about 1.5 inches. There are little white bumps on the ash...I understand those are from the "toothiness" of the wrapper. Whatever, but they look pretty cool.
At this point the pepper has subsided and I am feeling the effects of this cigar...I haven't eaten in a while. I deliberately avoided anything to drink because I wanted to appreciate the taste unadulterated. But I am thinking I better get something before I turn green. Not feeling like anything with alcohol I went for a soda (wishing I had a Sprite). Well that was a big mistake as coke and cigars don't mix well. At this point I am feeling pretty cold and it just doesn't taste as good anymore so I return the cigar to God's earth (i.e. I chuck it on my grass) and head inside for warmer surroundings.
I still have a great taste in my mouth. Overall the experience was good but not great but I think I will enjoy each subsequent stick more. I think they need to rest and hydrate a bit in my humi.
(This review turned out to be written in the present tense for some strange reason. I am not a writer!)
