Padron 3000

This is my first cigar review, so please be gentle with me. :ss

*****************************************

I smoked a Padron 3000 I picked up from the local B&M. Nice cigar, very smooth. 5 1/2" x 52rg. I clipped mine straight across the cap, but the draw was superb. A very well constructed cigar. The burn was perfect too. The first third reminded me of a very smooth Islay whisky. Then it shifted a bit to sweet coffee, cocoa, and malt. A little strong in vitamin "N" for me, but the flavor was excellent.

It's sort of a "plain" looking cigar, a dark brown maduro wrapper with a little brown band. Not one that would otherwise catch your attention if you were unaware of Padron's good reputation. The it's an all Nicaraguan cigar from Cuban seed tobacco.

I'd like to try the cigar in a smaller size to avoid the vitamin "N". I suspect aging the cigar for a few months would also make the flavors more rich. Recommended if you like "earthy" flavored cigars.

The padron is a great cigar. I like the fact its plain looking because it means that people that not smoke won't grab it.( Which means more for me.:r)

Good first review.

Nice review... and in my experience, dead on. The first time I smoked a Padron it was a little strong for me (pretty early on in my smoking trials) but I had one a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Padron. This is my go-to smoke for quality, consistency and price point. The newer one's ive purchased are less than stellar looking but they hold up alright and taste great. Put at least 6 months of age on them and they truly blossom.

You are correct about the aging. Give it 3 months and it will be a more enjoyable smoke. The first one I had I didn't care for but came back a few monts later and truly enjoyed it.

There is an ongoing debate on how much Padrons benefit from long term aging. Catch me in 8 years and I wll let you know. I have a stock that has set for 2 years now.

I like the "thousands" series, but they are not that good. With that in mind, my box sat for over a year. One day I picked up the box and smoked one. WOW!! It was a totally different cigar. I only have one left, and I will not smoke it until October 2008. Why? Because I bought my box in October 2006. I just want to compare a 2+ year old 3000 vs a new 3000. I already know the answer, but it will be fun.

Probably my main "go to" smoke; cant beat them for the $ and I always have these in the humi. I think they are consistently excellent straight from the B&M; I've never been able to leave them alone long enough to get any age on them, but you guys have convinced me to try!

I just recently smoked a 3000 maduro from a box I bought a year ago. Dug it out of the cooler and fired it up. Very smooth with hints of cocoa. They only get better with a little age on them. Reminds me I need another box.

Thanks for the review!

Nice review - I agree with others - if you haven't smoked more medium-full blends, the nicotine will jump up on you - come back to it in time and you'll appreciate it more and more.

Padron 3000 - Natural or Maduro, which one do you think has a better flavor ? I have tried the maduro but not yet the natural and kind of curious to the taste of the natural.

Nice review! This was the first cigar that I could ever actually taste flavor differences with each puff. They might be one of the best cigars for the money. Unfortunately, I've spent much of my money trying other cigars, and they never quite measure up. Now, If I could just save some money, I might actually be able to get a box :ss Enjoy!

:tpd:

Give the 2000 a whirl, they're a little smaller. I just finished off my last box of them last week...a sad nostalgic day for me.

Is that the lighter wrapper, the 2000? I had one a few weeks ago, but I'm a relatively new smoker, so I found it a bit strong, albeit good. I'll be sure to try one again sometime.

I've heard good about 5 Vegas for newbs :)
