Petrus - What do YOU know?

Heard of them, and had some Petrus cigarillos a short time ago. Seemed alright, decent construction & taste, but I really can't properly judge the Co. based on those.

A Felipe Gregorio blend. Not a very good cigar IMHO, but there are several incarnations & variations of the Petrus line.

I have tried 3.

There was a mild Connecticut shade draped Honduran that had a dry herbal quality. It was a casualty of the cigar boom, & probably the best of the 3 blends I have tried.

The Petrus Etequitte(sp?) Rouge was a maduro that bled all over my lips & fingers.

The Petrus Fortus (it may still be around at CI) is, I think, manufactured in Nicaragua & actually tastes pretty good, but is plagued with construction issues.

I think the Petrus Fortus Anejo is a decent cigar for the money. (You can pick them up really cheaply on Cbid). Nothing particularly memorable, but certainly not bad.

I smoked one the other day that was sitting around in the humis for over 18 months and expected nothing. It had a blue band like the current fortus but it was churchill size and I think all the fortus now are different sized torpedos. The wrapper was overly sweet too much so but not unbearable. The taste of the tobacco was actually ok and pretty rich tasting but not very refined. I wouldn't seek them out or buy again, but for a yard gar (I was planting panzies for the winter) I was not disappointed. Actually much better yard gars for a buck a stick, but it was much better than I expected it to be.

FWIW,

My two experiences with Petrus were not inspirational. They were quite the opposite. That is all I can add to the picture.

Well all, I certainly appreciate the response. I ask because I have a few sitting around myself...I randomly saw them on C-Bid for $7/5er, and after it's somewhat-convincing narration of it, I decided to give em a go. Can't remember the name, but they're a light-wrappered, long torpedo with a burgundy band on it. The flavor is actually pretty decent, with 3 months of age, however much difference that may make. For what its worth, the cello has a cheap feel to it...that, in combination with the fact that I'd never heard of it, led me astray as to what I should think about it.

But after shipping, at $2.19 a piece, I suppose they're not to terrible after all. :cb

The only Petrus I know (or rather, have heard of!) is the wine.
Just wondering, is there a correlation between the outrageous price of the wine (€600 = $875 per bottle!) and he price of the cigar? :hn

I was gifted a Petrus Dominicana robusto last year, and it was so good I'm looking for more. Seems as if they're not made anymore which is a shame. Nice leathery Dominican taste :tu

:tpd:

But you're light on your prices - check out some auction prices for older bottles - thousands.:D
