Premium Humidors........Boo!

On a side note I will be getting my 8 sticks plus a humi from CI today. It was out for delivery as of 1am this morning. Ordering from CI was a great buying experience, as was heartfelt industries.

Got my humi from CI (CBID) and my Beads from Viper (heartfelt), both great experiences, prompt, love the products. Get that humi seasoned and those sticks stabilized!

Thats the plan. I have to stop and pick up some distilled water and a spray bottle on the way home from work out today. I am excited about it. right now I have my cigars in a plastic baggy in a humi pack, so I am pumped about my humi.

Uh, big mistake there.

You can do a search on this forum regarding seasoning as well, lots of good info. By the way, welcome to the site.

yeah its already beginning to be a slippery slope.

Thanks I have been reading alot about seasoning just tryin to see all the different ways.

Quazy -

I got that exact same humidor the last time CI ran the special. I did not season it well (or at all) and it sucked the life out of my 8 stogies. I just threw the sticks in with a Dri-mist tube, obviously a big mistake. After a couple of weeks it still had trouble holding humidity above 55%. I just last week decided to re-season it and have had it closed with a dish of distilled in it for the past week. My lesson learned - take heed what you learn on seasoning here and follow it religiously the first time. These humidors are obviously not the nicest at $15, so do everything right for the best results.

Good luck!

Alright thanks for the input. I am seasoning it as we speak as per the link I posted on how to season a humi. But I think I'm going to let it sit for more then 24 hrs. We shall see. any one have any input on that?

I went and bought some humi packs to put my smokes in while the humi is seasoning and the guy (whom he said its his job to know these things) said the humi should season in like a half hour and be fine. I thought that was weird and I think I'm going keep it in longer like I said hah. For you Minnesotans this was at J.R. Fielders ( I think thats the name. the one on lexington).

Oh and the humi is origianlly like $29 I think from CI.

If you can spare the time give it at least a few days.If you can, give it a week. One thing is for sure.. it won't hurt to leave it in for too long but it will hurt to take it out too soon. The guys whos job it is to know these things should consider a new profession.

Yeah I walked out thinking. O.k. never ask questions there again. Just buy.

I couldn't find anything. is there a way I can tell if the humi is seasoned correctly?

A calibrated hygrometer is the only sure way to know if it is ready to hold you smokes. It is better to keep your sticks in a baggie than put them into a humidor that is un-stabilized. The wood in the humi would take moisture OUT of the cigars.
Patience will pay off in the long run

Last Thursday I ordered my first Humidor from them and have yet to receive it or a tracking number for it. I emailed them 3 times. the first time just said "update to order number ****" and had a tracking number saying it was shipped with UPS and their company will appear on my credit card bill. I put said tracking number into UPS to track and they have no information on that number. I email them a second time explaining this and no response. I email them early this morning and still have not gotten a response. So far I am very frustrated with this company and probably will not buy from them again. I ordered some beads and a digi hygro from heartfelt at the same time and I received them on Monday.
I ordered the 8 sticks plus humi for $20 and 8 sticks for $15 from CI on Monday night and I received my 8 sticks today. I thought I would get the first humi up and running by Wednesday or today but now I have 8 cigars in a baggy with a humi pack. I am very angry at the poor customer service that Premium Humidors has shown me.

O yeah... I also called premium twice today both times no one answered and their messege machine is too full so I can not leave a message.

Ok. sorry rant over.

:tpd: Once the RH has reached a stabil point at the RH you want for a couple days, it's ready for smokes. If it's still wildly fluctuating, it's not ready.

Basically, after you've done the water in a bowl for a couple day, you'll find the RH is pretty high, maybe upper 70s, low 80s. Then you want to remove the open water and replace with your regular humidifier (preferably beads), and leave that for another few days, and see if the RH drops to the level you are looking for. If it stays at that level for another day or two, then it's ready, and fill 'er up!

That is the exact response I was looking for thanks. I thought thats what you would do so I went ahead and did that anyway but I am glad you confirmed it. With the water in there it was like 85% rh for like 2 days so today I removed that and replaced it with my 65% beads and Ill leave that for a couple days.

As long as the beads are mostly dry (i.e. no more than 50% wet, maybe a little less), then they will start to absorb the 85% RH and slowly bring it down. You should start to see a change within a day, but it can easily take a few days to get it down. The beads are better at releasing humidity than absorbing it, but they definitely will absorb it. :)

well the original humi in question from premiumhumidors should be here today. I got my smokes in baggies with humi packs, my 20ct. from CI is seasoning and should be ready in a day or two. I just need to season this thing and get another sampler to get some smokes in it and I should be set for a while. Ill post pics when the 20 ct. is good to go.

sorry for the double post. stupid humi isnt here yet. just made it to MN today.

In the mean time could some one kind of describe how my Humidor should smell when seasoned? I don't know how to describe it exactly other then its kind of spicy. Should it smell like this?

I would describe the smell as kind of "sharp", so maybe the same thing.
