Price jacking

Man i just got a phone call from cigars and more in trussville alabama, about a month ago i asked them to call me if they received any anjeo's. shortly ago the guy calls me and says they have a box each of 50's,55's, and 77's. i told him i was headed that way and it would take about 1hr to drive that far. he then asked me if i wanted to know the prices, i replied it wouldnt matter because i wanted the 77's and 55's. he again stopped me and said the prices are 459.00 for the 50's, 499.00 for the 77's and 625.00 for the 55's........i was speachless, i told him me, and jamesroberts, were going to pass because i just bought a box of sharks from another store in b'ham at msrp. am i wrong for thinking that was obsurd.?????

I really dont know what to think about things like this. I was actually thinking about it last night and cant come up to a conclusion.

Part of me says that we dictate these high prices by giving in and paying 25 for a stick of Opus when I can find them for 10 at my B&M. The other half says they have every right to do this.

The place I was counting on getting some this year decided to do that. Last year I got a box of 55s close to MSRP. This year he said he hadn't decided what to charge yet, but minimun will be $500 a box, could be more. He also got 50s, 55s, and 77s.

If I'm going to spend 500 bucks
on a box of cigars they are
definitely not coming from Fuente :tu

Dunno about that, but I give the shop creds for insisting on telling you the price. Sounds like the person calling you knew that the price was in the stratosphere and was saving you the trip and angst.

Unfortunately someone will pay those prices. Just look at C-Bid for example. I made my way over there today for the first time in a real long while and was reminded of one of the reasons I don't go there anymore. There were PAM and PAN samplers going well over what I could get them for from just about any online vendor. Like I have always said " There is an A-Hole for every seat." This is why B&Ms jack the prices on these hard to find smokes. Because it's not if they will sell at that price but more like when.

i dont think i could bring myself to spend 500 or more on any cigars unless they had been very close and personal to jessica alba, lol.

Ridiculous prices but like everyone has said, someone is going to pick them up for even $500. B&M's like that don't get my business but I'm sure they don't care if they have enough morons willing to shell out $600 for a $200 box of cigars.

So $30/cigar for Anejos? :r

That just seems insane. I'm actually surprised that cigar companies or distributors don't try to limit the price gouging a little bit.

It's up to the consumer to limit price gouging by witholding patronage. It's up to the merchant to maximize his profit while remaining competitive.

Well casa fuente gets close to that for anejos. I was there over thanksgiving and was surprised at how much over MSRP their anejos are.

Oh, I agree with you but a lot of manufacturers in other industries take the stance of not allowing price gouging on popular products. It doesn't benefit the manufacturer to have retailers marking up their products to several times the MSRP.

On the other hand, I can understand why people with a lot of disposable income spend a lot on difficult to find products. A couple hundred bucks extra isn't that much to a person for whom an hour's time is worth more than that.

The demand might go down, my B&M has Opus sitting in the shop that he can't sell. They are $10 bucks a stick. I guess if he can get that much for them then it's OK, but it pisses off their regulars who keep them in business. So you may make a few quick bucks, but you lose in the long run.

$10/stick for Opus is at or well below MSRP depending on the size! If you don't want them, I'd take a few you wouldn't mind hooking a brother up :ss

Fuente actively cracks down on that. If you buy a single stick at the high price and mail them a letter with the B&M name/address and the receipt, they have been known to close accounts.

One of the shops in Baton Rouge was dry for a while because Fuente suspended their account over selling way over MSRP.
