Project of the Day : Engraved Oak 3 Stick Travel Case

Chris and JSG,
I worked with the Dado last night and sure enough, the grooving problem was user error. :)
I set the chippers at 90 degree intervals and it worked great. Then I made an nice oak inset for my table saw (complete with a tab stay on one end and a locking screw deal on the other end) so the Dado doesn't kill me.
I ripped some ebony last night and I've mentally prepared myself to do a couple dado's and try some inlay work today. I'll start praying for patience right now, cause I'm going to need a big mess of it. :)

Nice work!

Good thinking on the oak inlay, forgot all about that. I made one from UHMW plastic to keep my fingers too.

Post up some more pics!

Pics of the inset aren't very sexy. I'm working on a few other things and I'll have another POD thread soon. :tu
I've got about half of a desktop humi done, so it won't be long. :tu

The Freud dados are pretty cool once they are set up.
They actually are very smooth to use and mine has always produced a very clean cut, even on a cheapie table saw.
I have also used it (the 6") on my old DeWalt Radial arm saw, but I think I might now be wiser than I was then . . .
I love watching what you build, keep sharing the pics, everything is looking great!!

To all you John's, this thing is already in the mail. Went Friday, I think.
It's gonna land in somebody's mailbox any day now. :)

The first three desktops will be done real soon. :)
If it weren't for this camping trip weekend, I'd be damn near done.
I have the bottom of one finished and most of the parts done for the rest.
I can't till they're done, either. I'm amazed at how long it takes. No wonder why a handmade humi costs a fortune.

Aint that the truth! I have been working on mine for over 4 months now....but it's almost done now. I hope to have it done within the next week or two(barring no more damn hurricanes). I know your itching to see it. :tu

I can't say enough about your work. Excellent craftsmanship!

Word.
Hurricanes are definately gonna slow things down. :r
I have two tops made and two bottoms made now. I'm headed out to get back to work on them now.
I haven't given a moment's thought to the interior yet. That will probably push me over the edge. :r

Is that all? It feels like we have been waiting for the trees to grow so you can have the wood. And anoth.......

What?

It's Tuesday?

Darn.

John showed it to me earlier today. Very nice work Scott! The photos don't do it justice.
He had no idea it was coming. Nice hit. :tu
