Project of the Day : Vinotemp Drop-in Chest of Drawers Prototype

A shot of the grain and true color...

Here's a shot of the back.
Lots of things going on here. The slats are solid oak. They serve to keep the box square. They also serve as drawer stops. They also allow a full and constant air circulation into the drawer cavity.
If you go back to the beginning you can see how the top of the insert splits the fan.
The botom half of the fan will constantly be blowing and circulating air among the drawers to keep everything nice and uniform. :tu

This is a poor attempt to illustrate how the insert sits up off the floor and provides a space. The intent is to provide airflow and a place for beads. It'd also be an excellent place to hide top secret stuff or to store skinny boxes.
Ideally, I'd place beads here and leave it mostly open so that I can view the drain (that should be plugged). This way I can easily see if there is any condensate without having to pull the whole drop-in out and clear off the top shelf to do it.

The last pic, just because I like it, is a close shot of the back corner.
You can see a lot of construction principles going on here.

Welp, that about covers it for now.
Thanks everyone for all the kind words. :)
I'm going to slap some of these together and offer them for sale in the next couple weeks. If anyone is interested, drop me a pm and I'll let you know when they come available. Once I've built them, I'll be able to cost them out and see how much they'll be.
I can tell you all that stuff then for your consideration.

I'm going to go mow the grass now. :D

Scott- let me know if you decide to mass produce these drawers I would have to get one for sure :)
Will do, brother.
I put you on the ever-growing list and I'll let you know when I get a batch done. I'll probably start hammering them out this week. :tu

Awesome Scott, I want you to have my child and my cat wants you to have his kittens. On a more serious note, consider shipping as a kit where the customer assembles the unit with provided instructions and hardware. Much cheaper to ship a flat box than a box that would hold an assembled unit.:tu

So this is what you're doing with your broke back retirement. Right on brotha man. Good talkin' to ya this evening.

Keep on keepin' on mang.

I'm beyond my child bearing years, so I'm going to have to pass on you and your cat's generous offer. :r

I'd consider breaking it down and shipping flat, but it's furniture.
To do it, I'd have to reduce the thing to junk, and I'd have to add a sheet of stickers.
Hasbro I'm not. :D

YOU THA MAN SCOTT!!!

Well done buddy. I am sure you will tell us all about it tomorrow night.:tu

Oh ya and I want one.:D
