Questions About Some Cigars

Snake Hips

Götterdämmerung
In my continuing exploratory state of cigar buying, I tend to look at the catalogues of the big cigar vendors and websites and such, but there's such a massive selection and they all seem to say the same things about them.

So I would just like some input on a few cigars that caught my eye for one reason or another. Of course I'm the only one that can say if I like them, and the only way to really know is smoke whatever I get my mitts on, but input is always good - keep me away from bunk stogies!

Partagas - I like the Black but haven't tried anything else. Is the original good? Spanish Rosado? Seasonal?

Punch - Had one Rare Corojo that I didn't find memorable. Which line of Punch would be worth looking into?

Romeo y Julieta - What's up with the Viejo? I only see these at CI and they prostitute them like mad as the "best" RyJ blend.

H. Upmann - I like the Vintage Cameroon a lot and thought the original was generic, but haven't seen much about the Connoiseur, Special Seleccion or Reserve. Any of those any good? I've heard good about the Gold Tubos...

Flor de A. Allones - JR touts these like the greatest thing ever for the price. Any good?

Ramon Allones - I didn't realize there was an NC Ramon Allones until the JR catalogue. Don't hear anything about them here - that a bad thing?

Montecristo - I like the Classic, but there's many more than I thought there were. I see the original, Afrique and Platinum - how about those? I didn't much like the White.

Excalibur - What's the difference between the Sterling, the regular and the 1066 lines?

Perdomo - CI has ESV '91 Seconds for cheap. I take it it's a good cigar, so would that bundle be a good investment?

Sorry for the buttload of questions, but I'm so overwhelmed by the numbers of lines there are and the fact that they all have the same stuff said about them and they all cost relatively the same...I'm just very overtaken with choice, if you will. Help meh :(

That's what we are here for to answer questions. Although be carefule about asking for help in the jungle...it usually leads to busted mailboxes...:D Buy samplers to start. that's what I did and now I can't stop.

The Black which is pretty strong and the only Partagas I have really smoked, my experience was not a good one, it had crazy draw problems.

Upmann Vintage Cameroon was my first cigar and as a result I have become a Big Cameroon fan so I'll pick one up here and there.

Monte Cristo Afrique is a goodie a have a few in the humi

Personally I am not a big fan of Corojo so I can't say much about the Punch nor any other Corojo thus far, if you have already have a taste for stronger cigars then skip the ESV most find it to be an Airball and way too light.

The best advice I could extend would be to buy samplers or visit your local B&M ask around the shop grab a dozen or so sticks & determine what your likes/dislikes are & then go from there.

Hope that helps!

Wow, thats a lot of questions in there. My suggestion, smoke anything you can get your hands on, everyone's tastes are different, just because someone else likes them doesn't mean you will. Buy samplers, if you like them, buy more. If you hate them, donate them to the troops. The only way to answer questions about the smokes, is to smoke them :tu

If you really want answers about every cigar you want to know about, read the reviews from some gorillas on here and try Top25.com for some insight. :2

Thanks guys, that helps. I already try to grab anything I can and smoke it, but usually I try to see what others think about them first. If more people like them, I put them at higher priority and vice versa. Helps me determine what to try first.

Also, I'm a sampler whore but I can't find samplers involving the smokes involved and I can't really afford 5-ers of each, and my B&M doesn't have most of them, prompting this thread. Unless there's some "Cuban Heritage Super Mega Sampler" out there I don't know about. Does JR have a singles system like Neptune, Famous and CI? I could only find a 5-ers thing, but only they have a lot of the smokes I'm interested in.

Busted mailboxes are no fun :D I do a pretty good job of busting it to pieces all by myself, so have mercy :hn

Looks like I'll have to at least go for the Afrique, Partagas and Gran Puro at least. I find it funny that people always like the various lines of a marca, but rarely talk about the original - you never hear about the Partagas, Punch, Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann and Hoyo de Monterrey original lines - just the Black/Spanish Rosado, Rare Corojo/Gran Puro, Classic/White, Habana Reserve/Reserve Real, Vintage Cameroon/Signature and Excalibur/Hoyo de Tradicion.
