Quick question.... Neewbie mistake

Hi All,
First I just wanted to say hi to everyone here and say what an informational site this really is. I look froward to learning lots from you guys.

Alright now for the part where I need help......

I recently made my first big purchase from CI and this included a 300 ct humidor and a few 5 packs ( Nub habanos CAO black, Man O war, Olivia V's and some Gurkas and I also bought some padron 1929 and 64's and comancho triple muduro from the local B&M.)

Anyways I did all this under the assumption that my humidor would be here today. because I have to leave untill sat. well guess what It didnt show up.....

i did get a digital hydrometer and some hydration beads (drymystat?) aswell

So my question is should I do a big zip lock bag until I get back or what? do I leave them how they were shipped to me? I would like to open a few of them to bring with me. I don't want my newly acquired stash to go bad or anything.

Please lead me in the right direction.
 
If you already have the beads, you could hydrate them and put them into a large ziplock bag, or in some tupperware with the smokes for the next few days. Since it is only for a few days, I don' think it will hurt the sticks at all. When I first started smoking I kept my smokes in a Ziplock bag with a moist paper towel, and they were fine like that for a week or two, you just have to be sure not to let the moist towel touch you smokes.

Use either a double zip lock or a Tupperware and you'll be fine. 300ct? You sure thats big enough?:ss
 
Do you live in a place that is very dry? If so, you might want to put them in the ziploc. Chances are they are a little over-humidified anyway right now so if you live where it is humid they will probably be fine. Keep them out of the sunlight or where they can experience radical temp changes.

But the most important thing is, YES, you must take some with you.
 
A plastic bag will keep the sticks fine for atleast a week. You are going to need to keep them like that until the humidor is seasoned anyways. :tu

I would stick with rH Beads instead of the Drimisat.

True. No matter what you would have done you would need temporary storage because the humidor needs several days for the seasoning process.
 
Yeah, no need to panic. Just put them in some tupperware with some form of humidification - the drymistat or you could even use a small sponge moistened (NOT soaking!!) with distilled water. Just place the small sponge on a dish to keep the moisture from creeping near your smokes and they will be fine :tu If you don't have tupperware use Ziplock bags.

Agreed. It sounds like not getting your humidor today was a blessing in disguise. If you would have stocked it up today there’s a good chance you would have come home on Saturday to some dry sticks as all that new dry wood would have sucked some of the humidity right out of them.

Bag them or go the Tupperware route for now. Then keep them and the beads in there while you season the humi.

I like the dish method, but I’m not a big fan of wiping the wood with a wet rag or towel. Just put the dish in the humi and wait. Be patient. Your smokes are already safe.
