Real Rum Drinkers

Papichulo

DIABLO CANOSO
Hey guys, I love rum and have drank/sipped some of the rarest in the world. For many years I have been drinking Guatemalan Zacapa Cien, which IMHO is the best on the planet. It has beat out all the rums in the Caribean. I do however, been enjoying a carmel tasting Belizian rum called one-barrel which is out of this world. What do you guys like?:ss

Just had sipping rum for the first time.... Barbancourt 8 and 15 ...this stuff is delicious.

I need to make a trip out of Ohio to get some....

The South Florida crew got me hooked on Diplomatico Venezuelan rum...damn good stuff! Never tried Zacapa Cien...is it hard to pick up?

You can pick it up in a high end grocery or liquor store. Look for the wicker wrapped bottle..

I have had the Venie rums and they are tastee.

Thanks for the headsup - I'll look for it next time I'm out...I have a liquor wholesaler that can usually get his hands on anything.

I really like that stuff. It goes great with a Por Larranaga :)

I don't think it's quite as good as Zacapa or Havana Club, but the price is great. I also like the fact that it tastes different than any other rum I've had--caramel is also how I describe it. If y'all haven't tried this stuff yet, I highly recommend picking up a bottle (it can be a little difficult to find, but when you do, it's hell-a cheap).

Drink either Zacapa or Zaya.

I would like to try the Belizian rum. Sounds good.

I got a nice 20 year rum from cuba, can't recall the name I tihnk it was Gran Reserva but that could just have been describing the rum instead of being the brand. anyway it's tasty!

Ron Caney is outstanding, as is HC Barrel Proof. Probably my two favorites among current production rums.

My all time favorite:

Neisson Reserve Speciale

"Rhum Agricole" (meaning its made from pressed cane juice) in Martinique. Distilled and bottled on a family owned plantation...its hard to find and kind of pricey, but ridiculously good.

You can get at these online retailers..

I don't remember  ................:D

Man - I love rum. Over half of my stash is rum. I can't have any at the moment due to medical reasons - but in a year when I am able to I wonder if I will have a problem. So if anyone knows the answer - here is the deal.

No sugar - can't have it. I know that rums are made from sugar and by rights should have a low sugar count as it is the sugar that is converted into alcohol. But how would one tell the actual sugar content of a specific rum? It's not like it's on the label.
It's not to say that I can't have sugar period - 5 to 7 grams per serving would be okay (big deal huh) - but over that and I'm in trouble.

Any ideas?

Ron
