Rental cars and cigars?

In a couple of weeks I will be renting a car for 4 days to go out of town. The first leg of the trip will be an 8 hour drive. I figured this would be a great time to smoke a nice big cigar I have been waiting to smoke. There will be some opportunity's for some cigar smoking when I get there plus the ride home would be another great chance to smoke a "special" cigar. I have looked online at a few companies and neither mentioned anything about a smoking policy.

Do I need to be concerned about the smoke and the rental company? I have not rented a car in a while so I’m not up on the whole smoking and rental car etiquette.

Thanks,
Chas

Personally, I wouldn't think so, but I've never rented. Of course, i don't think I can for another 2 years! (can't rent til 25 right?) I don't think it'd bother anyone if you did, as I'm sure others have smoked cigarettes in it regardless if there is a policy. Just keep the windows down, and spray a little smellin' sauce in there before you return it.

I think they lowered that

Actually, you can rent under 25. You just get hit with an extra daily fee. The last time I rented, I got a Saturn Ion (which means I'm never getting a Saturn after that experience, just the most infuriating car I have ever driven) and had to pay an extra $30 each day because I was 23.

Wouldn't hurt to ask.....you don't want to have your credit card charged with a $100 "clean up" fee or something wacky like that......

I would make damn sure that there isn't a clause in the rental contract that says you can't smoke. For instance in hotel rooms (like the one I am in), if I chose to light one up, they would charge me $250 for a cleaning fee. As long as you can't find anything that specifically says you can't light 'em up :2 :tu

You can rent as soon as you turn 18, problem is it will cost you an extra $100/day. Once you turn 21 the price lowers to $50-75/day. So yes you can rent when you are under 25, but it is gonna cost you.

they sure do charge alot for younger drivers.
as far as smoking look into Avis I think they allow smoking.

one word: febreze

:tpd::tpd::tpd::tpd: Spray Spray Spray. Let it air out then Spray a lil more and you'll be fine. When I spray my car u cant tell I've been smoking at all.

After you allow the smoke to air out spray and keep the windows up over nite then spray in the morning then allow the fresh air do the rest. Sounds like alot of trouble its very simple. Just remember to SPRAY:D:D:D

I would think as long as you dont drop a hot piece of ash on the seat or door, or hit the top and make a hole you should be fine, . One thing more I should say if its a company that comes out to check scratches, be carefull when you smoke sitting in the car that the ash dosnt hit the door it can ruin the paint, I think it did that to my car.

Typically, I wait until I get where I'm going before I light up.

With a rental car, the stress of paying a clean up fee is greater than the joy of smoking in said car

I just did some more searching and of the three I just checked there is absolutely no mention one way or the other about smoking. I read all the FAQs and anything I could find. Unless its something that they cover when you pick it up you would think there would be some info somewhere online. I figure I will be in this car for at least 30 hours or more over the 3 1/2 days I have it so at the very least I will be smoking my pipe.

Thanks for the advice so far :tu

Fine print: Common sense would be to outlaw a product rather than spend billions of dollars trying to find a way to govern morality. Oh wait everyone makes money on the back of the smokers, states spend millions of dollars worth of sin taxes every year and will never eliminate the cash cow they have created. (sorry rant over)

Just get a smoking car, they still offer them. Lighter included. I use Avis every week though, can't speak of the rest.

I have also smoked in a non-smoking rig and not had problems.

You will be fine.:ss

Smoke away my friend! I have smoked in every car I have rented and never had an issue. Granted this has always been down in FL, with the windows open, but still........
