Okay folks seeing that I'm a newbie in every sense of the word I'm looking for my first Humidor and could use some help from some more experienced gorillas.

Can anyone give mee feedback on the quality of Republic Humidors:

http://www.republichumidor.com/

I'm considering purchasing one but I have no idea if they are a good quality piece of craftsmanship.

Your help is appreciated.

Chris

Thanks for the responses and the link to the previous thread. I just made a nice chunk of change selling some things on ebay and have another very expensive item to list so I think a new humidor is in the cards for me.

It's ironic..... I work my full time job and a part time job but I have to find creative ways to spend money so that the wife doesn't get on my case. Guys, why do we do this to ourselves?????

I bid on the 150 ct Republichumidor model#100-5 on ebay several weeks ago and pulled one down for $31 shipped. Right after that he put a minimum bid on all his humidors. IMO, they're still worth it.. Read the warranty before placing your bid!
I tossed the small undersized humidifier sent with the box and replaced it with a Craftsman bench 6"x2"x0.75" loaded with 65% beads and swapped out the analog hygrometer for a digital.
This Humidor is solid and holding at 66%. I don't think it'll hold 150 cigars but for 31.00 if it holds 1/2 that I'll be happy..
That being said, and this being your first box keep this in mind. Think of the total amount of space you'll need for your collection, then multiply that by 10..
I use my desktops to house different cigars so I don't have to open my cabinet or coolers often.. Once every few weeks I fill the desktops up.
If you can afford it and the humidification, go with a cabinet you'll be happier in the long run with the storage, trust me. Then visit David/Viper at www.heartfeltindustries.com/Beads.htm to buy yourself beads. Again, get more then you think you'll need. Use his formula to figure out the minimum amount of beads needed.
OR
Get the desktop and a 100 qt cooler add a few pounds of Vipers beads and you have it.

Sorry, i started using my brother's humi (he rarely smokes these days). Ended up getting a 50 qt. cooler!:)

Republic Humidor is a new name, but their products are from the same sources as the other two main suppliers in North America, Quality Importers and The Orleans Group, which is the same place vendors such as Cheap Humidors, Bargain Humidors, Tampa Humidors...etc get their products from. So their quality is on par with anyone elses around. styles may differ and their offerings are fewer, but same good quality. I also hear that they intend to introduce a line of acrylic display humidors (plexidor, acrylidor...whatever).

They have made some changes recently. They used to be wholsale to the industry only, but are now skipping the middle-man and selling to the general public. They have also changed their warranty to be less legal mumo-jumbo and just say something like "we will fix it for free if it goes bad, except for when you break it" And it's a lifetime warranty now, not 1 year. What can really go wrong with a humidor, anyway, that isn't apparent out of the box?

I talked to Dave today. He is sending me a key to the universe... I mean my humidor. He will work with ya. Good people.

I also talked to a rep at Colibiri and they just sucked, qiute rude. At leat the ass-hat I talked to was. She asked me "are you paying attention" in a crappy tone. She had me on squak box and she kept cutting out. I had to aske several times to take me of Speaker Phone... fook.
That first beer is coming early.

Thanks skates94 was just checkin out these republic's and ran here to ask the same. Heck at some of theses prices you could get a variety pack! LOL

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm waiting on a few pokey folks to pay for some items that I listed on ebay and once that's done I'll be placing a another bid for 1. I bet on a 150 count 1 Sunday but lost that one and seeing that I work 12 hour shifts I haven't had much time to watch the auctions the past couple days........ sounds like a few of us here are gonna be bidding against eachother.

Thanks again.

Well I did it....... just ordered my first humidor. I ended up with the Republic Humdor Model 100-4 (150ct). It looks pretty sharp and should hold what I want to throw in it (about 80 stogies).

The only thing left to do is wait for it's arrival, break it in, and order The PUCK from Mark (www.cigarmony.com)

Thanks for your leadership and direction in this decision my fellow BOTL.
