Rocky Patel Decade Toro
Size: 6"x50rg
MSRP: about $10
Construction: Firm cigar with a dark Ecuadorian wrapper and few small veins. Considerable weight for its size. I'm not a fan of double bands but the bands on this cigar were tasteful. The wrapped near the cap unraveled a bit upon cutting the cap. I would recommend using a punch cutter with this cigar.
Pre-light: Fragrant tobacco scent. The draw was just right with a rich tobacco flavor. So far, so good!
First third: A nice, balanced blend of spice and earth with a sweet, lingering finish. Perfect, even burn. Light gray/white ash.
Second third: The flavors are building nicely. Any spice is overcome with rich molasses, earth, and tobacco flavors. The finish with sweet, dark, and syrupy. The burn and ash remain flawless and beautiful. Medium-full body and medium strength.
Last third: The rich flavors and perfect burn continue. A bit of harshness appears and I decide to set this cigar down with about 2" remaining.
Bottom line: The construction of this cigar was so good that you could have put a Graycliff label on it and I would have been fooled. In fact, I kept thinking that this cigar was a lot like a Graycliff during the first half before the richer flavors really kicked in. The second half of this cigar was rich, dark, and sweet. I enjoyed this cigar but didn't find anything that made it stand out from the crowd. It was rich and flavorful but lacked that certain spark of life that makes a cigar outstanding to me. While it's not exactly my cup of tea, I would recommend trying this cigar to just about anyone.
