Ok, got done eating the leftovers (sorry :eevis) and was ready for a Evan Williams Single Barrel with a splash of Diet Dr. Pepper. I reached out for one of these beauties and even the Dr. (Pepper of course) was impressed.
Clipped that stog and toasted up the foot and noticed although the wrapper is dark and rich, it is not exceptionally toothy as one would expect from such a hearty wrapper. It is smooth and beautiful.
Off the bat, great volume of smoke and easy draw, the undertones had an earthiness of a black truffle or a dried porcini mushroom but was not dirty or musty as one might assume from the description. Some good white pepper (I use this term to describe the scaled down spice otherwise found in a Partagas Black or a DPG blend which I would describe as black pepper). i also pick up a toasted nut flavor, not peanut, maybe cashew or almond.
First third goes by without ashing and the salt and pepper ash is holding firm while the redolent Sumatra wrapper is buring razor sharp after a rose petal burn through the first half inch or so. The flavors develop into a slighly sweet coffee flavor with rich tobacco. The pepper fades and become subtle kind of like vermouth sprayed lightly into a glass before adding your favorite Martini as we near the second third of the stick.
By this time, the coffee flavors add to a backdrop of cocoa and a hint of nutmeg, gently hugging the sides of the tongue and lingering like the smell of a fine wine in the mouth or nasal passageways. The more I breathe out my nose, the more prevalent it is. I am getting pumped for sure
The last third of this beauty the stick is burning cool as a cucumber with the flavors further harmonizing. I can describe this best like cooking a gravy or sauce and letting the components meld and marry further incresing the flavor without overpowering the body.
Folks, i got a deal on these as I bought a box from Cigarlvr for $120 but i would tell anyone who can find one of these to get one, age it for month or two and then enjoy it. i feel this is Rocky's most successful blend to date. it closely resembles the DPG Centurion line without the fuller spice i discussed earlier. Try one and enjoy. I would give this a 9.5/10
All the Best!!
