Rocky Patel R4 (summary: it's a Dog Rocket)

hoax

Netbackup Ninja
I picked up a bundle of Rocky Patel R4 maduro torpedoes awhile back as an impulse buy off of JoeCigar. Unfortunately I did not read the many bad reviews before making the purchase. I knew I was in trouble as I clipped the cap. It was so jam packed my cutter had trouble making it through the torpedo tip. I kept cutting further up, same problem until I was right at the base of the band.

It lit ok, but the first taste was horrible. Bitter and nasty with a medicine aftertaste. It took three puffs before I dropped it in my ashtry. Rocky Patel and Cigar International should be ashamed of themselves.

These are the cigars:

That's funny...all EIGHTEEN of the Fan Mail reviews on CI are in FAVOR of the R4.:r

Considering my guys purchased PLENTY of bundles while we were in Iraq, and me personally burning through two bundles, I only have one conclusion....

Maybe your tastebuds are just shot?

Did you ever think they might not post many bad reviews? Hmmmm.... that might affect sales a little bit.

I would not call them a "Dog Rocket" as they are not poorly constructed IMO - however they are one dimensional and bland.

I got 10 (5 & 5) in a sampler order I made - will not be buying them again though.

I enjoyed the naturals when they first came around (they had a lighter colored wrapper then). The last batch I got had a very dark colored wrapper and the cigars were not enjoyable at all.

I haven't gone back since. Consistency is obviously not there.

I smoked an R4 last week and was not impressed. While I didn't get the same medicine aftertaste as Hoax, I did not really enjoy the smoke. I will stick to the RP Vintage 1992's.

Okay SHOE, since you obviously can't read, let me abbreviate it for you.

Now...let's see what I replied....

Now let's do a little history lesson.....

Cigars will vary some due to the fact that they are an organic product. It's just part of the game.

These were his words on the "Dependable Smoke" thread

SO....let's see....

He smoked ONE, and by that ONE cigar, the ENTIRE R4 series is a dog rocket.

Really?? CI has an outstanding Return/Refund Policy -

CI Return/Refund Policy

They should be ashamed?? Or should you just be embarassed??

I am curious, tobii3, why you felt the need to insult the original poster instead of simply offering your opinion?

Doesn't seem like the Club Stogie way to me.

I'm with Hoax, I found mine to be atrocious. Actually, the ones I had were "maduro" and I ended up discoloring my fingers with dye. This was the 2nd Nestor Plasencia made product that I experienced this with.

Insult??

My original post is NOT an insult. Hoax claimed Bad reviews on the site he bought from - yet NO bad reviews were to be found - how is that an INSULT??

I received a 5'er from CI also. gave 1 away...today after 4 weeks in the Humi smoked about an inch of a 5x 50 then tossed it.
I'll keep the other 3 and try them later...but I was not impressed with it the flavor I expected was not there for me.
I then had a "La Aroma de Cuba" MMMMMMmmm!:dr

STS.:ss

He was probably talking about the bad reviews on this other sites like this one. ;) I also found your post to be insulting. Obvioulsy can't read, taste buds shot and embarrased comments are over the top, imo. Just because you like them tobii3 doesn't mean others will. I think this cigar totally sucks balls but I know there are folks that like them.

here we go....I happened to think the R4s are pretty good Maduro's. Then again, I've only had the Robusto...

This is exactly what I was referring to, Tobii3.

These are not exactly the kind of posts I would expect to see here.. Just my :2

Thanks for the review Justin!!!:tu

I also got a bundle of these!!! Mine were the corojo!!!

The first one of these I tried I really hated plus I got a bad nicotine buzz! I thought "What a mistake!"

I decided to try another couple under a different circumstance and found that they are tolerable and maybe somewhat enjoyable. The first one I had was at night with a beer... not good at all! The next two were in the morning with my coffee after a small breakfast!!! This seems to be the right setting and coffee seems to be the right compliment (for me)!!!:2

The last one I smoked was while mowing the lawn, thus these prove to be a good yard gar!!!

:hc Give 'em a try with coffee!!!

Whoa now, I never said the bad reviews were on CI. If I recall (this was a few months ago) the reviews were either here or on some of the other cigar forums I surf. Specifically I recall it being in a thread about the JoeCigar sale. And it's not like I marched back inside and dumped the bundle in the trash. I'll give a few more a try before sending them off to the troops.

And I do believe you can't expect a cigar to be consistant. It is after all an organic product. Bad draw, uneven burn, poor cap, etc. These things happen. Cigar tasting like licking my truck's oil pan, not so much.

But I didn't let one disapointment ruin the evening, I also had a Don Line Africa Kuro which was ok. Then I dropped by my local cigar shop and had a Padron Panetella which was superb.

ha ha ha

Well, when you make assumptions, you KNOW what happens!!!
Gang, I'm going to respond to this and then I'm done with it.

Here's my thoughts, tobii3:

There will be assumptions made here and there will be misinterpretations made here - that's life - deal with it. I don't think there's anyone in here that won't own up to them. If you think I can't read that's your business. I know what I was thinking but I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you further. What stands out to me is that you make a statement that maybe someone's taste buds are shot. That's bad form - plain and simple - but YOU can't take a little sarcasm that's intended in fun? Seems like you made an assumption. Then for you to say 'when you make assumptions, you KNOW what happens!!' leads me to believe you may be the kind of person that takes great joy in pouncing on everyone that makes a mistake or has a different viewpoint than you or maybe your the type to look for things to beat somebody down with your infinite wisdom. That doesn't sit well with me, personally, but I can't control what you say or how you say it. You're the owner of that :BS.

I'm sorry, but after all of this and based on what I've read (and I CAN read) I've gone ahead and made the "assumption" that you're a real jerk. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe my opinion will change - who knows? I know you don't care and frankly neither do I. Now, should YOU be ashamed or embarrassed? That's your business. I can't speak for everybody, but I don't have to play your game. I DO know that - and I can ASSUME many might agree.

DONE
