This is my first attempt at a review. I'm planning on keeping a notebook of reviews in this format so please let me know if there is any information missing that could be useful later.

Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Robusto 5.5X50
About this stick:
From the manufacturer “A perfect balance of flavor, complexity & richness, this very smooth earthy smoke has notes of cedar & espresso. With a 12 year old Honduran Broadleaf wrapper and a 7 year old filler and binder, this cigar is mild to medium bodied.”

Pre-Light Characteristics

Date Acquired
July 14th 2008
Date Enjoyed
July 15, 2008 (I’m impatient what can I say?)
Appearance
Tasty! Wrapper is in good condition with no large veins visible
Pre-light draw
The cap exploded when I cut it so I was a little concerned. The pre-light draw was fine which was a relief because my tupperdor was a little overly humid.

Enjoyment

1st 1/3
This cigar has a very smooth and mild tobacco flavor. I do not detect any spice or peppery flavors at all. Nice even burn with a tight white ash. I would put this cigar on the mild side of medium bodied.
2nd 1/3
The burn is a little uneven but nothing to worry about – it may be from my rookie handling. I can also detect a very mild hint of a peppery spice mixed with a more rich tobacco flavor. The cigar picks up to a more medium body during the middle third.
3rd 1/3
The burn is a little more uneven than before but still not terrible. Again, the burn may be attributable to rookie handling. The uneven burn certainly didn’t keep me from smoking it to the end. Still has a very rich yet mild tobacco flavor. The hint of spice has faded away.

Smoking time: 75 Minutes (Approx.)
Band (The band will be pasted below on the print version)

Nice review. I really dig these sticks. They are one of my go-to robustos. In fact, just got another box today.

Curious. It looks as though your sticks are wrapped in cello. The one I picked up at the local B&M was not. Would they remove the wrap and put them back in the box for some reason?

I've bought a box of mini belicosos that had cello and 2 boxes of the Sixty's that were naked...I've always seen the toros naked at the B&M but celloed in sampler packs. Odd.

They would likely never remove the cello. I have seen both boxes, with and without cello. I really have no idea why.

Just had one of these the other night and I loved it. It's the first one I have had in a while and it didn't dissapoint.

This is one of my go-to sticks. I like most things in the Patel line, but the Vintage 1990 is probably my favorite - with the Edge maduro a close second.

good review!! one of my favorite smokes. if you like them get you some of the vintage seconds i swear by them and buy them any chance i can.

Good review- I love the 1990- one of my favorites. I have seen them in all sorts of forms even at the same B&M. One time they were in individual glass tubes inside a box, sometimes in cello, sometimes naked, I think theres just so many of them around there are just different varieties of wrapping.

Great review. I love most things Rocky and the 1990 vintage is one of my go to cigars as well. I have gotten boxes with out cello but the last box I opened had cello. ???

It all depends on how the given vendor wants to order the cigars, with or without cello. Some like to sell them naked and and like that look for display although it does invite wrapper damage. Any that I have bought by the box have come from three vendors and they all were in cello. I hope that this post will serve to answer the earlier questions in this thread also.:tu

I did a search and found this post, I think that's an ok way....

Anyways I had my first 1990 tonight and I loved it. The burn was good, the taste was very consistent, and from the very first draw, snorking was easy and very pleasurable.

I will get more of these and I am eyeing the 1992 in my humi but I want to wait a while first.

Very very good cigar!! :tu

I love Rocky's blends as well and at present have the Connecticut, Fusion, Signature, Vint. 90 and Decades that I got from Cigarlvr a month or so ago. The 90 is an awesome smoke that has a smooth almost chocolatey taste about halfway through. This is a smoke that you can go to anytime with confidence. Nice review, thanks.
