rocky patel vintage 1990

Back to an old favorite. As a matter of fact the one I'm smoking now is the last of a box I bought during an event at my local lounge. Rocky even signed the box. Heck I should take a pic of that and post it later in the thread.

The curent vitola I'm smoking is the robusto, but ice tried all of them from Churchill to sixty. They are wonderfully smooth and when I bought the box they would have been a 4. But now I think to myself are there 20 to 25 sticks out there better? Does it deserve that 4 rank? I mean just from rocky there is decade, sun grown, OWR and ITC 10th which could be argued as better. Not to mention a bunch from Fuente/ashton, Gurkha, padron.

A great smoke. Smooth. Med bodied with tasty smoke. Flavorful. But a 3.

I'm confused on your rating scale

3 out of 5? out of 10? out of 100?

Personally I'd give the RP vintage 1990's a 7/10.

I get the idea. The 1990 Vintage is the only ones that I can find anytime I want. I am really hesitant to try any others except maybe the OWR. I see alot of mixed reviews about taste and consistency. I have a 1992 that has been waiting in my humi for 8 months or so. I would like to find some at my local shop before I give it a try. The 1990 was pretty good IMHO, but I would probably never consider a box. There's just too many other brands that I want to try still. I would rate the 1990 a 3, too.:2

His is a scale of 5 (given that he describes it as a "great smoke" yet giving it a 3).

And I personally perfer a scale with a lower range like his:

1 - Toss it.
2 - Tolerable, but not great.
3 - Very good/near great.
4 - Great!
5 - I'm taking out a new mortgage for these.

And I concurr with his review of RP 90's, they are good, but there are better, even other RP blends are in my opinion better (Decade/OWR--I haven't tried ITC 10th so no comparison there).

Having said that, I still have a full box of 90's and 92's sitting in my humidor. It's been in there with just the seal removed since around late May.

I just smoked a Vintage 1990, my first. It was a petit corona. I liked it very much. Mild but very flavorful. I'd smoke a few more first, but this could be one that I'd buy a box of if I could get them for something less than the normal price on CI or FS. Maybe Cbid has them at a better price.

I'll put a link to rating system in my signature when I'm not operating on blackberry.

A 3 in my system is high maybe I need a decimal in it yo let us know its a high 3.

4 and 5 are reserved for basically the best 25 to 30 smokes out there.

I just finished a corona and really loved it. Better than a Decade IMO. Great finish. I think I like the OWR better, but I haven't smoked one recently enough to compare. A bit mild but very flavorful is a good description.

I like the Vintage 1990 a lot, not so much the 1992. The Fusion is interesting, but I still prefer the 1990 to it. Among the Patel blends I also like the Edge maduro and the Sun Grown. The Olde World Reserve is okay, but I like a lot of RP's cheaper blends as well or better.

I love these babies, the first cigar I had that "wow'ed" me. I have since amassed a large collection of Patel's including the 1990, Fusion, Signature,Decade and I think I still have some Connecticuts. Great smoke, very consistent.

Great cigar, with this blend I only like the torpedo for some reason it really broadened my horizons with more medium bodied cigars it was also recommended to me at my paradise Corona Cigar Company in Orlando. Great place and great service.
