Romeo & Julieta 1875

So as some of you may already know Im a nooby and proud of it. :D Just recently got into cigars and for some reason its sucking me in. ;)
Maybe its because I am new and my pallet is still virgin trying a bunch of new cigars isnt as pleasant as Id hope it would be. Each one I try IS different, but they all seem to have a universal flavor to them also. I sometimes have trouble finishing the whole cigar, but then a few hours later feel myself being pulled to check out the 10 or so cigars I have in my humi. lol ANYWAYS...

I tried a Romeo Julieta 1875 cigar today. Forgot which size, SORRY, but I payed $5.50 for it in a local deli that happens to carry cigars.

Construction : Not as great as Ive seen others cigars have. Overall it was solid but the cap seemed to be a little flimsy.

Cut and draw : Cut was nice, even though I was cautious about the cap. The pre-light draw was very nice. Loose but not a wind tunnel.

Ash : Divine :D Nice white ash for the most part and easily hit 2+ inches and could have probably gone longer.

Flavor : Unfortunately, I dont know if its just my taste buds or what, maybe everyone goes through this in the beginnings, but the cigar on a whole tasted very leathery and earthy. The second third put a LITTLE bit of spice in the mix but thats all I could detect. Once I got to the last third it started to get a little harsh and somewhat monotonous. I "finished" with about 2" left on it. I know...blasphemy! But what can you do.

Overall: Pretty nice, a little dry, and good for somebody who wants that leathery taste. Me personally, Im looking for something with a bit more character and complexity. Im still on my search for a cigar that holds that sweet cigar smell Ive been looking for since I was a child. :D

Sorry if this isnt the best review.

R&J 1875 is a classic cigar on mild side. Don't know but it sounds like it was not treated well at the deli. Try a maduro cigar from a B&m and see if it's not more of what you want. Anywy good luck going into this "thing of ours" ( cigars)

I really like the R&J 1875's. For a very creamy cigar, try a Fonseca 5-50. I really like those.

:tpd:eek:n the Fonseca 5-50. Inexpensive, tasty & complex for a mild smoke.

Nice review, Trace63. You hit the same issues I experience with the 1875 (I usually go with the Cedro Deluxe, which is heavier on the woody taste. Duh.) It's a nice cigar, although it doesn't fit my preferred flavor profile. And nothing wrong with leaving 2" on a cigar. Smoke what you like and quit while you're ahead.

Good review. :tu Like to have a few on hand for a morning smoke, mild and flavorful. Tend to let the cigars rest in my humi from a few days to a few weeks before I can determine whether it's a good smoke or not, particularly if they just arrived from the retailer. Usually can find them for around $3 a stick. :ss
