Ronson lighters

I have probably 8 or 10 of the Ronson Jetlite torch lighters. Several are still in the pack, but I use 4 of them regular. I keep having the same issue with all of them. When I strike it, sometimes it'll light with the first strike, sometimes it may take 3-5 to get it lit. And also, a couple of them will stay lit for 20-30 seconds before going out, others only, 3-4 seconds. I've tried different types of fuel, same thing. Tried the ol cheap ronson fuel, Zippo premium butane, Colibri, something called First Light (triple refined). All the same. I've adjusted my flame level knob and it seems to help as far as striking on the first try. Seems like if it's way up high, it won't strike at all. I get the best results around 85%. But still have some issues. Any advice?

On high, I think the fuel comes out too fast and is not able to ignite. I would try Vector or Lava fuel, both refined 5x. Both are available at B&M's, Vector is also available at Williams-Sonoma stores. The other problem can occur in cold weather, even Blazer's seem to have problems when it is very cold. Just hold the lighter in your hand for about a minute, that seems to help. :2

Since their fuel is so piss poor I would imagine so are their lighters so they may just be that way. As stated above find some good fuel, I really like Vector and it is inexpensive. Empty the lighters turn the flame all the way down and fill with good fuel.

:tpd:

Also did you turn the flame adjustment all the way to low before refilling?

I've got a handful of ronsons and they are the most reliable of all my lighters and the most flexible with different types of fuel.

Just purged all my Ronsons of the bad fuel. Filled them with the good stuff, and they work like a dream. Still like my Blazer thought :2

I had the same problem with mine. I thought for sure it was just shot, but I checked the flame strength screw, and it was turned back from 100%. I turned it all the way to 100%, and it works perfectly (and with the Ronson fuel, no less).

I guess my advice is to play around with the flame strength screw, and you'll probably find the sweet spot.

I purge them completely and refill on the lowest setting. I'll try the hand warming thing and keep messing with the screw adjustment.

You should not need to warm them unless they are below 40degrees. This has only been noticed in the winter while herfing outdoors. Purge, refill with good fuel, check flame adjustment.

As has been said, when you're refueling make sure you purge the lighter of all fluid/gas before refilling (hold down the button until the hissing stops), then turn the fuel output adjustment all the way to it's lowest point. Only after these 2 things have been down should you fuel up.

I've never had a problem with Ronson fuel in any lighter for what it's worth, I have a Ronson lighter running Ronson fuel that's been in my car and in daily use for a couple of years and it's still in perfect operating condition. It's a good thing as Ronson is all I can find around here anyhoo.

I agree with the Eagles fan :bn. My jetlite lights up 1st time every time.

:tpd: Just filled mine today. Follow this method you should be fine! :tu

I've never turned down the adjustment when refueling, but I do vent the lighter completely as mentioned earlier in the thread (I will put the lighter up to my ear to make sure there is NO sound at all coming from the valve...literally the inside of the lighter is room pressure).

Once that's done, I fuel up. It works for me everytime.
