RP Fusion MM - A not so hot Cigar

Seen several reviews on these that were not all that flattering, but since I like most of Rocky's stuff, still wanted to give it a try.

It has a dark nice looking wrapper which gave the impression of being oily, but it is dry and rather thin.

Cut it a bit deep, and part of the wrapper came off. It appears to be too thin to do any good.

Anyway the start was very unimpressive. Dry and very mild. About 1/4 of the way some woody flavor came in. The finish had a nice little cedar touch but the smoke was kinda bland. It has a dry taste in the mouth, sometimes slightly pleasant but mostly not.

Unfortunately not a smoke I would seek in the future.

I guess Rocky can't hit a home run all the time!

Had the same exact thing happen to me with lots of Rocky Patels, even a Decade and i didn't cut it very deep at all. It almost seems to be a recurring problem with Patels.

That's interesting. Especially when you look at the 1990/1992 which have some of the best wrappers around. Maybe the rush to get a lot of product on the shelves has hurt some of the quality.

I recently had a RP Fusion but not the Mega Maduro. It was the natural Connecticut outer wrapper and found it to be a wonderful smoke. It is disappointing that the MM isn't as good.

I enjoy a lot of Rocky smokes these days and these were a bit more subtle than some of his IndianTabac I think are a bit over the top. It is almost an assault on the senses.

On the RP Fusion I smoked, I did notice that a similar occurence with the wrapper when i cut mine. I had 1/8 inch wide -3/8 inch string detach from the outer wrapper. I intend to punch the next one to avoid the occurence. The wrappers were beautiful other than that.

The pictures you show and your description is disappointing. I was interested in that smoke but may avoid it for a while. Overall, I have enjoyed most of the Rocky cigars I have had. I was a bit disappointed in the Old World Maduro. It had a very flat, thin flavor.

I like the natural Fusion a lot but wasn't too impressed with the first MM I tried either. I have a few more that came in a sampler that I'll forget about for a few months and try again.

Did the wrapper appear to be as brittle as it looks in the pictures, from the start? It looks very dry.

Too bad, wished it had been better for you.

I have another in the cabinet that came with this one in a sampler. Just took it out and inspected it. The wrapper is not dry or crunchy, it appears to be very normal. It is a very thin delicate wrapper, which is unusual for a dark oily looking cigar.

Had a Fusion Nat and an MM today, and I thought they were quite pleasant. Nice strong white ash on the Nat, and a real straightforward flavor. The maduro is blended strong, but not overpowering. Pretty smooth as well. For the price, I wouldn't pay MRSP, as I think the SGs are better, but overall a pretty tasty cigar. :)
