Evolving Lead Gorilla
A couple of weeks back I got a 5'er of these from Cbid and have been eager to try them ever since. I dearly love the RP Vin. 90's and I was hoping for much of the same here with the Vin. 92.
As I expected this stick was near flawless in most every way. The wrapper, as you can see from the pics, did have a couple of minor cracks, but other than this it was lush looking, smelling and all around inviting.
Cut, burn, ash were all there in true RP fashion -- which means they were great. It was a beautiful spring day here in Indiana, with a good breeze in the air; yet the Vin. 92 held up like a champ. As with the Vin. 90 the 92 put out a ton of heavy white smoke (which I just love).
The reason I dubbed this cigar the "bratty lil' bro" was because of it's harsher flavor over that of the Vin. 90. Lacking was the customary RP creamy flavor signature. Rather I found the Vin. 92 to be a bit more harsh straight through. This harshness tended to cover over any discernible flavors that were present. As I expected, there was the evidence of chocolate, but with the harshness, it was more like scorched chocolate. There were some other noticeable flavors about as well: coffee, butter, nut. But again, they were all over ridden by the all around harshness of the cigar.
I suspect this may mellow out if I were to let them rest for a while; which I intend to do as this isn't a cigar I plan to give up on just yet. I powered through, not that it was too difficult to do -- it is a RP after all and other than this one issue was quite redeemable. Overall I'd rate the Vin. 92 at a 6.5 / 10.
I hope with some age this will improve to 8 or better.
