San Cristobal Maestro

Redneck Primate
San Cristobal Maestro

Construction: 10 out of 10
Burn: excellent
Flavor: one dimensional 5/10
Strength: medium

I was really looking forward to this one but I was disappointed. I could taste some pepper but that’s about all. I never detected any other flavor to balance it out. No smoothness.

This just did not have a good feel or flavor for me.

I had my first San Cristobal the other day and quite enjoyed it. Well most of it, the last 2 inches or so were a bit ruff, even after purging. With a little rest I think these will be great sticks.

Nice review. :tu

I've smoked the Maestro and the Fabuloso. I enjoyed them both quite a bit. I might have liked the Maestro a bit more, but the premium one has to pay for a figurado over a torpedo wasn't really worth it in my opinion. So, when I went to buy a box of these I went with the Fabuloso (torpedo).

had my first Maestro tonight and had the worst time keeping it lit. If I didnt smoke it like it was stolen it would go out, came right from the B&M so I dont know if it was too moist or what. My little lady picked it up for me as a gift, based on the price tag I wont be trying another for a while...

On a side note... It looked GREAT

Thanks for the review.

My experience is that it was an ok cigar. Definately not worth the price though IMO.

This is a perfect example of the problems the Pepin cigars (made in the Nic. factory) are starting to show. More and more overhyped and overpriced homogeneous blends and many cigars with construction problems.

I have tried a couple of the Nicaraguan San Cristobols, and like you, I am not a big fan. :2

I really like the San Cristobal Monumento. I have half a box resting for a year and am really looking forward to breaking out those bad boys come 2009!

Wow, sorry to hear this as I love this brand (very creamy and packed with loads of flavors in the examples I've had so far). This sport/hobby/obsession/addiction surely is subjective!

This is one of my favorites. IMHO these need to be on the dry side, 60 – 65 RH and they smoke great.

:tpd: Yep yep. I have found great success at 55-60% for several months. I like the Maestro but I think the torpedo and corona are the best in the line up.

Thanks for the review.

Picked up a sampler from Holts about 8 months ago. Smoked two of them a couple of weeks after they arrived. I felt the same way, too much pepper for my taste so I let them rest.
Smoked the Maestro a couple of weeks ago. Much smoother and a more enjoyable smoke. Try giving them some time in your humi. Just my :2.

I had one of these a few weeks ago while playing golf. I obviously wasn't focused solely on the cigar, but I really enjoyed it. The burn was perfect for me, even though I was half ignoring it while I was busy bending clubs around trees, slamming them to the ground, swearing, etc...

I've heard a lot of people echo the same sentiment as you about San Cristobal. I have to tell you, that picture alone is making me drool. I love these. There kinda rare around here though. I think they're a good 2nd or 3rd smoke on a Saturday. Too strong without a good meal in me.

I think the best vitola in this line is the Guajiro. I agree that it needs to be a bit dry. If you decide to give it another chance; dry box the Guajiro for a day and see if you like it.
