Finished a long boring night of guard duty and decided to unwind with a cigar. Picked out a Sancho Panza Corin I had gotten as a fiver off of CBid and sat outside my room with some coffee and my cigar. Was a great way to relax.
The overall appearance is nice: dark oily maduro wrapper, smelled like dark chocolate, and felt solid. Snip the cap with a V cutter since my double guillotine got lost, and to my dismay, the cap came apart. However, the wrapper didn't unravel like others have had happen to them, so I was glad about that. Lit up with wooden matches and took a puff.
Lots of thick smooth smoke that smelled like chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied dark chocolate flavor all the way to the end. A little bit of coffee in there, but mainly dark chocolate. It sweetened every now and then, but it was mainly the same flavor throughout. Not complex at all, but hey, it tasted good, and that's all I cared about really. No flare of spice, no pepper, woody, earthy, or any other undertones really. Just dark chocolate. Honestly, I liked it, and it complimented the coffee I was drinking well.
It burned excellently. Every now and then if I let it sit too long it would start to burn off when I took another puff, but it corrected itself quickly. Didn't need to touch if up once, even when the slight breeze picked up. The ash dropped on its own after an inch each time and was a light greyish color. Lasted over an hour and made for a pleasant smoke.
If you want a complex smoke this isn't it. Like I said, it's a consistent chocolate flavor from start to finish, and almost nothing else. Went well with the coffee I made, and was a nice finish for the evening. The other Sancho Panza's I've had have all had issues with the cap falling apart after being cut, and sometimes the wrapper would unravel, but this one had no issues. The wrapper problem is usually fixable with a few licks, and I've only had one where the wrapper wouldn't stay. Not bad at all considering the price, and I'd gladly get a few more to add into rotation. 7/10
