Sancti Spiritus Torpedo

Size/vitola: 6.125" x 52rg torpedo
Medium brown Nicaraguan corojo wrapper
Nicaraguan wrapper and binder

sanctispiritus.jpg

Pre-light: Very firm and tightly packed with tobacco. Some medium sized veins and small wrapper defects likely due to the travels that this cigar has been through. Easy, smooth cut through the cap. Moderate resistance on pre-light draw. No real scent or flavor other than tobacco.

Light/first third: Mild and smooth. Some floral and faint wood flavors. Hints of caramel. Nutty finish. Mild-medium body, mild strength. No problems snorking this cigar at all.

Second third: Still quite mild. Creamy texture. Caramel and nut flavors with floral hints. Finish switched between nuts and creamy, sweetened coffee. Very slow, even burn with a firm light gray ash.

Final third: Still mild-medium body and strength. Nice and creamy. Caramel, nuts and coffee. Very pleasant and smooth.

This cigar surprised me. It was not at all like any other DPG cigar that I've smoked. It was refreshing in the fact that it wasn't another variation on a spicy powerhouse of a cigar. In fact, this cigar had zero peppery spice. It was also incredibly well constructed. Shame about the cheap, cheesy looking band. Put a classy band on this cigar and I could believe that it was a $20 super-premium but the band makes it look like a cheap bundle cigar from the cigar boom days.

Thanks to seegarfan for the chance to try this very good and unique DPG cigar!

Only 50 more DPG blends to go :r

I like the Red label and Vegas Cubanas as well for mild DPGs, but this one has an edge on those. The only DPG blend on the mild side that I like better than this one is the Troya Classico.

Thanks for the review!

The Sancti Spiritus is an amazing cigar. I have only smoked the Salamon, but WOW it was a 3 hour vacation to paradise. I'm not sure, but I don't think they are being made anymore. When I was at Cigar King, Joe said something about Pepin not making them anymore (due to his growth). That is sad, but at least Cigar King is retaining the H&G and the Habana Leon (my favorite). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven't heard that these are going out of production, but there has been a MAJOR price increase on all his Cigar King lines since DPG "restructured" his business relationships. The price has almost doubled since the last time I bought a box. This is a great cigar, but $10 a stick is pushing it.

Even this torpedo took me nearly 2 hours to smoke. It was a very relaxing, slow burning stick.

I agree. It's very expensive for a house brand cigar. Thanks again to seegarfan for sending me one. Otherwise I probably would have never tried this cigar.

Thats my problem with Pepin smokes ... he is milking the S/D picture as much as he can. When I can get PSD4s shipped to me cheaper than the $190 for the Habana Leon robustos (not that I would .. I'm just sayin'), I mean ... come on ...

Agree with the pricing as well. It seems a lot of his house brands have been inflated.

That is an impressive list and journey dantzig, I've had only half of the cigars on that list. :tu

No Kiddin! I bought a Pepin sampler fron Cigar King a while back and smoked a Sacti Spiritus corona, I think it was. I really liked it and I was gonna order box but decided not to when I saw the price. I liked the Hirsh Y Garcia as well but both are too expensive for a house blend cigar. As for Pepin milking it for all he can...good for him! Welcome to America!

Great review on a cigar I REALLY love and that does not seem to get much buzz...

I agree on the band tho and the crazy insane pricing... Maybe CigarKing will come to their senses...IMO these are definitly box worthy... just not at the new prices:):tu

A little follow-up.

The Sancti Spiritus will be produced for Cigar King. However the SS will be a Maduro and it will not be produced in Pepin's Miami factory. It will be made at another factory in Miami.

That truly is one fugly band on that stick! Never smoked one, though, so I can't comment any further...

So it will be a totally different cigar, a maduro made by a new manufacturer, under the same name?? Nice.

Thanks for the info though!

I'm glad you enjoyed the cigar! I agree that CK pricing on their house brands have put these on my "not worth the money" list. Not when I can pick up much better deals at CI and CBID on plenty of the other Pepin sticks.
