Sending a cigar to a non-smoker

Sent him a MC platinum for his retirement. I have lovingly cared for it for 5 years.

You'd think I was sending him my first born child.

I gave him verbal instructions on the phone for 20 minutes and to make it worse I typed up a note that had 4 full paragraphs with all the dos and don'ts.

Maybe I should have had him sign a contract that will compel him to light it and smoke it correctly.

Take care of my baby...

I thought about it. But for me that is part of the experience I like so instead I sent him a cutter.

That's right a whole cutter for 1 cigar.

I am crazy.

You're not crazy at all. There are good uses for those free/cheap humidors, cutters, and lighters. One of those 20 count CI humidors along with a cheap cutter and a Ronson lighter is a great way to push someone down the slope :tu

Not crazy...just a good friend that's nudging a mate down the slope.

Even better. That makes up at least one and a half pages of the note.:tu

The last time he had one they were basically from a drug store and the experience was less than pleasant. By sending him one of my favorites maybe he will have better results. The last one I had in May was absolutely delicious.

It is hard to send them to an unknown future though...

I too love these sticks. I have a box my wife bought me on our honeymoon almost three years ago. I smoke one per year. I get to have another in October.

Nice shove down the slope. Let's see if he's wearing greased shoes.

D

Nice move trying to shove a friend down the slope. Before you know it he will be a member here with two coolers, and a Veno, and a few Desktops, and a cabinet, and....... Oh wait I am describing myself :hn.... Nice job.:tu

Oops. He just asked where he could get a catalog.

It makes you wonder how many potential cigar smokers there are out there that just need a nice one to try.

Good job! Advise him against trusting catalog reviews, though.

Does he have Internet, or is he doing it the old fashioned way?

He has internet. I am going to send him a sampler pack. If he likes my MC platinum he should like some of my other sticks. This will keep him from going about it the hard (and expensive) way. This should be enough for him to get his first couple of 5ers and boxes and then he can take it from there.

I had so little experience when I started I was scared to get anything but MC no 3s because the only cigar I had ever tried that I liked was a MC. It took me almost a year to try something different. I made the usual mistake of misunderstanding what mild vs full meant. The funny thing is now I have found the list of cigars I don't like is pretty small.

Ironically, some of my MC 3s have just turned 4 and blech. I may put them on the DNS list for a year and see if their flavor turns back around. I really wasn't trying to age them so much as store them. I am not sure I want a stick that can't last 5 years without such a massive decline in flavor.
