Smell and taste of mold on my cigar.

I just opened a new box of cigars (will withhold the name for now), and when I removed the wrapper from one to give it a good sniff, I noticed a strong smell of mold. I checked the cigar carefully, and did not notice any mold, or anything else on the cigar. It had a very good appearance, and looked well constructed. There were no spots on it, white or otherwise. Not knowing if it was me, I lit it up. It was a mild flavor cigar, but now I was tasting mold. It started off barely noticeable, but as I neared the end of the cigar, the mold taste became more pronounced. I had to put the cigar down as the taste was too bad for me. I haven't checked the other cigars yet....hopefully they are okay. Has anyone ever experienced this in a smoke?:confused::confused:

Would you say the taste was "musty"? I've had musty cigars before. Break one open and see if there is mold inside.

Never had that problem. Some fuentes were reported to have mold problems some time ago ... cant remember which ones, I think anejos.

I had an over-humidified cigar once that molded. I put it out to dry out and smoked it and thought it was fine. I'm pretty sensitive to mold too.

The one you had must have had a serious problem.

The smell is definitely a moldy smell, not a musty smell. I checked a couple of the other cigars in the box, took them out of the wrapper, and they too smell moldy. I will have to get back with the place where I bought them and see what they can do for me. I just got the box last Monday, and just opened it yesterday. I haven't tore open a cigar yet to check inside, I will check based on what the seller has to say.
