Smoked my first Padilla today ... not impressed

Bought a Padilla Hybrid in the Cigarfox deal a month or two ago and finally pulled it out today. Was really looking forward to this, since I've heard so many good things about the brand. But after smoking it, I just don't get the hype. The draw was too loose for me. The flavor was a bit flat. Not bad, just ... muted or something. Not the volume of smoke I expected.

Did I just get a dud or is Padilla not all it's hyped up to be?

I've had some great ones (esp the 1932) and some not so great ones. I reckon it's that way with all brands.

:ss

I never cared for any Padilla's except the Miami and the '32 Signature that Pepin produced. Also, the '68. The new Miami is still good but not what I was used to with the Pepin mades. The new '32's are still very good, imo.

I bought a box of Padilla Hybrid robusto a few years ago on c-bid & they were just so-so...until recently when they turned into a very tasty medium bodied cigar with a very nice nose. If I had known they were going to age so gracefully, I would've left em alone. As it is, I just smoked the last one the other day.

I had a padilla achilles last weekend. I think it may be towards the bottom of their lines due to the fact my uncle bought them. I thought it was a pretty good smoke. It didn't blow my face off but I wouldn't turn one down.

Personally, I like the Hybrid, but it's not a show-stopper. Padilla cigars are all over the map right now, so it's hard to judge them all by one blend. The old Pepin blends are really really good. Try the Sig 32 or Miami 8/11 before they're gone -- both fantastic smokes. The '68 (made by Tabacalera Aguilar) is also very good, but it's quite different from the Pepins. All of these are better than the Hybrid, IMO.

I think this is the first cigar Padilla made, & they're discontinued now.
It's a lot milder than the other Padilla blends I've had, but it's still a quite enjoyable mid-day smoke. Nutty with a mix of spicy-sweetness.

I have never gone wrong with a Padilla 1932 Signature or the Miami 8/11. The '32 is one of my fav's and is a very complex cigar. I bought up my B&M's inventory of the '32s on a blowout sale.

For me, Padilla cigars are hit and miss. I like the '32, '48, old 8&11, the new Miami, and the Habano. I do not like the '68, the Hybrid, the Obsidion(sp). I have not tried some of their other facings.

I'm a Pepin Whore so I was a little hesitant with the new Miami, but it is a great cigar. To be honest, I like it better than the original.

The hybrid is one of those smokes that just doesn't jump out at you and say, "I'm a great cigar". I've bought my last of those. I would like to try some other Padilla's though.

I really enjoyed the first batch of the Padilla Achilles (pepin blend). I just purchased some of the new release Achilles and I hope they are atleast decent now but I'm skeptical based on the price point.

I have some of the Pepin blend '32s and Miami's but have yet to smoke either of them. I've bought some of both recently on CBid and I'm assuming they are the new blends for both. It looks like the label on the Miami changed based on the auction pictures. I'm looking forward to doing comparisons on both.

I've tried just about every Padilla imaginable.
I enjoy the 68 and the Habano.
I'm sitting on Hybrids, Capa Clara's, New and old Obsidians, new and old Achilles, a few 32's, a bunch of 68's and who knows what else. Aside from the Habanos, I doubt I'll smoke any of them. It's because of the "hit and miss" nature.
A Miami 8&11 robusto stands as the very worst cigar I have ever smoked, yet a 68 is one of the best I've ever smoked. I imagine if I was willing to try another 8&11 (and I'm not), it may be phenomenal.
I've pretty much cut out Padillas and that's a shame since, at a time, I was very excited about them and gathered everything they made.
My cigar smoking opportunities are thin and I've found that more than half the time I get a Padilla so bad that I can't smoke it. They're just not worth the gamble to me when there are so many cigars out there that I can count on. :tu

The 8&11 is my favorite Padilla by far.....and one of my favorite NC's! Looks like Scott and I have different viewpoints on that one. :ss

Yeah, I probably won't dismiss the entire line. If an when one of those higher-end Padillas comes along, I'll force myself to smoke it. ;)

I'm a big fan of Padillas, but not all of 'em.

My favorites are the Habanos and new Achilles. I actually like the new Achilles a little more than the old. The '32s are pretty good, but I like the 68s and even 48s as much or more. The Obsidian is ok, not great, but not terrible. I'm not very fond of the Hybrid.

I'd say don't judge Padilla by the Hybrid, in my opinion you grabbed the worst of his blends.

Like other's here, I've found some Padilla sticks suit me better than others. The Hybrid is one that has left me rather unimpressed as well. I haven't had one for at least six months, and I gave several of them a whirl a while back. Maybe they'll pick something up now that they've sat a while, but I'll stick to the Miami and Sig sticks I have; I found the Obsidian a decent stick.

i would not let the hybrid be your only impression of padilla. personally i love the brand except for the hybrid. grab a habano and give that a shot. should be alot difference experience.
