Smoking in the garage?

My wife is opposed to me smoking in the garage because she thinks the smoke will inevitably get into the house. It's too cold to sit outside and actually enjoy a cigar this time of year, but in my garage i've got a nice little heater, a stereo, and a TV (with cable). It's sufficiently warm. Will the smoke get in the house if I smoke in the garage (with the garage door shut?) Any other ideas for smoking this time of year?

I smoke in my attached garage with the garage door shut, but I have a side-load with a window cracked. The smoke certainly doesn't always go out, but it keeps it circulating. Make sure the seal is good on the door leading from the garage to the house and you should be okay. Out of 10 cigars I smoke, my wife only makes issue with one (approx. of course) and that's usually if the wind is blowing towards the door leading to the house.

Hope that helps.

You should be alright. Remember, if the smoke was going to get in the house, so would all the cold air....:r

I suggest putting some cat litter out there to get rid of the smell. Also, maybe an air purifier for while you are smoking. This will help get rid of some of the smoke and eliminate the oder.

I smoke in my garage all the time and I really don't have a problem with the oder....:ss

I raise the garage door about a foot or less when I smoke out in the garage. My wife doesn't say anything about it.

Without the window or man door, you have to crack the door.Just open the door all way when you're done for a few minutes to air it out.
It works for me.

The smoke may not get into the house, but your wife's opinion is bound to get into the garage. You have to decide for yourself if you can smoke out there.

I've had to use the garage the last few days here in Colorado. I usually open the door about a foot and sit a fan on the floor by the door to help exhaust. Still a little bit of a smell the next day, but not a hint of the smoke in the house.

Scented kitty litter(use the whole bag, its cheap) will help absorb odors. Does she say she can actually smell the smoke when you are outside? That may indicate an air leak, check the weather stripping around the door. Crack the garage door, candles as everyone suggested also helps. Good luck:tu

I smoke in the garage occasionally and, although the smoke doesn't get in the house, it will definitely get in the wife's car if I don't remember to roll up her window before I light up.

Now there's some wise words. I'd tell her that her nail polish and hair spray may cause early hair loss, so back the hell off.

I open the garage door a couple inches and put a small fan by the door to draw the smoke out.

I've learned through doing it a few times that I need to make sure I'm prepared before going down there. The more times I go back into the house, the more the smoke makes it's way into the house.

I'm in a condo and the garage is under the living room. The smoke doesn't seem to make its way upstairs into the house. I also light a candle upstairs to make sure that if some smoke makes its way up there, it gets masked.

Sounds like it's time to build a Man Fort out in the yard ,my wife calls the garage the out building and smoking is allowed there all year long. Occasionally I can even use the 3 season room but I need to get a ventilation fan in there .

Wait till she's away from the house and smoke one in the living room. all the sudden smoking in the Garage wont seem so bad.... now granted you might be sleeping in the Garage.

My friend and I smoke in his garage all the time, he has cable TV, a couple chairs, a Kerosen heater,a couple oreiental rugs, small fridg, MAN ROOM...
perfect all winter long!

and we never have complaints about smoke in the house, I would also imagine as little smoke that gets in the house, if there's any smell it should go away pretty quickly... Another vote for opening the Garage door occasionly while your smoking.

If it is not attached, then I do not see a problem honestly, i would look into the canldes that mask the sent, although i dont know if they are really any better than a normal candle. Just my point of view from my marrige though, If my garage was not under my livinging room that is.... If my wife saw me taking numerous and planned/researched steps to eliminate smoke wafting into the house, even if a TINY bit got in she would be 100% more likely to let it slide once in a while rather than me just doing it, with women (again in my experiance) the effort goes A LONG WAY towards your goals!

You need to ventilate the room some how , whether it be by cracking the garage door or installing an exhaust fan . Good luck .

I have a similar garage setup as you and I use a candle while smoking, open both of the garage doors when I'm done for a few minutes, limit trips into the house while I'm smoking and then lastly, I skeet some stuff called Fabreze in the downstairs as you come in from the garage. Because of the effort, the spousal unit has been cool about it so far. As soon as I get through this winter, I'm either building a smoking shed or may spring for a combination sunroom/smoking room addition to my house.

Do any of you have any problems with the smoke getting into your car ar do you leave it outside while you smoke?

I've left her car outside while I'm smoking and on the few of the really cold days we've had I left her car inside with the windows up and haven't noticed any getting in to her car.
