lucky

Young Ape
Greeting again to all,
I have been lucky lately, wait a minute, I'm always Lucky, as I have had time to sit down at the computer and write.
I don't know if I mentioned it or not but we have had some unusually cold wether, it has regulary been in the mid twenties at night which effects my crew, we work nights. With wind chill, it gets into the teens, something I don't know people realize about Iraq, I know I was unpleasantly suprized on my first trip here back in 03. I am not allowed to talk about specifics of our missions or anything else that might compromise operational security, I'm sure you guys/Gals understand. As such, I will try to occassionally give you bits of info about general stuff. Currently we are in the midst of a religious period known as Ashura-Arba'een it runs from mid Jan to early Mar. One of the practices during this period is rather strange to me, observers of this period will whip themselves with wire cat tails and strike the tops of their heads with, basically machettes. They cause themselves to bleed, alot, its rather disturbing to see, but a common practice. I'm not sure, but I believe it is primarily observed by Shiite Muslims.
Anyway, on to the cigars! today we cracked open the box of Diablos (Picante), immediate winner with the Joes and me too. Looked a little intimidating with that very dark wrapper, I'm a sissy when it comes to strong cigars (dont tell the Jet Jock though, he might think we can hang out) suprizingly not so, very tastey and pretty consistant to the end. I also found another cigar that was reviewed in one of the mags sent, it was the "Griffin" another one I'm really glad I tried. I have to admit, because I didn't recognize the label, which is kind of unassuming, I would have passed it over, remember I'm a novice. I know now that you should not judge a cigar by it's label alone. Anyway, it was a great smoke! very much in line with my tastes, very smooth and mild and all those other professional terms you experts use to describe a kickass cigar. Back to the Diablo for a moment, the Joes pointed out another thing, because of its abreviated length, they didn't freeze to death smoking it, just about the right smoke time for this time of year outside. I am working on somemore photos, I know it's not cigar related but I got ahold of a Russian Jeep called a Waaz, with a little work I got it running and have been driving it around, I'll post a picture of it. Stout little jeep, turbo, four cylinder diesel, I first ran into them when I was in Mongolia a few years back and thought it would be nice to have one, now I do, atleast for awhile, I'll pass it along to someone else when I rotate out. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying a good smoke, I know we are, thanks to you. Until next time,
SSG Corcoran, ah what the hell you can call me Kevin. (Infantry Leads the way!):gn

Great to hear everything is passable there. It's cold and rainy here in Florida, well as cold as it can get in the old sun shine state. I also like the Diablos. I went in with my neighbor and got the 2 box deal at Famous. Another smoke I enjoy is the CAO MX2, this too is a dark intimidating cigar. But when smoked it is a medium strength smoke. Of course the Patrons are great also.
Hey let me say, Thanks, for all your doing there. You and all the other Joes.:tu :tu :tu :tu
And thanks for posting here, it's a good reminder to the rest of us the price of our freedom.
The jeep sounds cool post some pics for us.

It's truely my pleasure to serve, I have had a wonderful life and this is a small price to pay for the fantastic country we live in. My youngest just joined, 4th generation Infantry! I have had some great adventures and have no regrets.

AS I may have said before, I am glad you and your Joes get a little R&R time with some cigars...you deserve that and so much more for your service to our country. Thank you for sharing, and hope to have a smoke with you someday and shake your hand. :u

I saw an add for discounted flights to Douchebagistan on travelocity recently, perhaps I'll fly there and we can burn one together. I live very near Fresno, Ca. I should be home some time this summer, if you get through there, I'll supply the smokes.

It would be my honor, Kevin.

I have some more magazines to send over with the next load Kevin.
Trying different brands/cigars is half the fun...:ss

Dave,
Good to hear from you, I want to go to one of those Davidoff cigar shops featured in the Smoke Shop mag, pretty impressive.

How cold is it there right now? It's been cold and rainy here the past few weeks. Low 30's at night. The fog was so bad today I felt like I was driving to work with my eyes shut. First winter here in the valley and for some reason I never thought it would get this cold.

Richard

P.S. The cracks never get old. Keep em' coming. We might just have to work on getting you that ride. Just bring lots of puke bags.:tu

Glad you are doing fine and finding the time to have a stogie or two. Thank you for the service you have rendered this country. And give a round of applause from me to your people as well.

Dear Richard,
Please pay attention now, find your cabana boy and have him read my post to you again, I covered the wether. You'll find he does much better if you don't tickle him while he tries to read to you. Love ya,

Kevin

Yep missed mid twenties. I was just letting you know the weather back home.
Ok, truce. Sorry, I suppose that ride is out of the question now, me and my big mouth, you did say keep them comming though. My wife is a Postal Carrier in Hanford, she has a 16 mile a day walking route, in all weather, so when I call home I get a detailed weather breif. You will find Hanford can get cold, very cold and on rare occassions, it snows. The fog can be intense, I have my usual routes maped out on the odometer. I hope you weren't to terribly offended.

Nope, not offended. Good thing about the military is sometimes you're the dog but sometimes you're the fire hydrant. Been in for over ten years (even though I'm newly commissioned) so I'm used to seeing friendly ribbing turn ugly by the end of deployment. I don't let stuff like that bother me. It's tough sometimes on here because typed comments don't always come off the way they would in person. Much respect for what you're doing. I will be providing CAS over there for my brothers soon enough. So just get home safe and we'll go flying and have a smoke before my deployment.

Richard, know what you mean about ribbing getting ugly, as an Infantry Squad Leader, I have to step in on a fairly regular basis, testosterone gets out of hand quickly! My Son will be deploying around the December time frame, maybe you'll get to fly a mission for him. By the way do Hornets have DVD players for you to watch while the plane flys itself?, sorry couldn't help it!

Send some more tango's back to he77 were they came from & watch your butt over their OOOOOh Rah !

Be honored to fly in support of your son. Unfortunately my squadron hasn't been upgraded with the DVD mod so I have to bring mags and stogies for those long missions.
