Stogie breath

Just outta curiousity...where the heck do you get 11.5ph water?

Munt.

I rinse my mouth out with 11.5ph water, brush my teeth, then repeat with the 11.5ph water and I'm good!

But I usually have to take a bath too since the smoke smell is in my hair and finger nails and just all over my face lol

When I'm home with the wife I don't do anything,,when I'm with my girlfriend I usually suck on some breath mints.

I drink a couple of Miller beers, eat a couple of burritos and eat a hard boiled egg with horseradish sauce. My wife thinks that cigar breath is an improvement over the farts that the above diet generates so she is fine if I brush my teeth and chew a clorets. I have dentures so sometimes I just take them out and use Listerine before putting them back in.:chk:chk By the way for those who miss clorets gum, you can get it at www.candydirect.com. Hope this helps.

or drink some scotch or borbon. Eat some onions and garlic. Then you wont have stogie breath. :ss

:tpd: I was about to say, drink some Scotch. That'll cure it. Try brushing your teeth with Arm and HAmmer Baking Soda. Wet your toothbrush, stick it in the soda and brush (DON'T SWALLOW). Then use toothpaste.
You'll go from this :ss to this :D. :tu

Got Stogie Breath? Try Stogie Fresh! :D Sorry, I couldn't resist...

Here's what my mom used to tell us and sometimes it's these old time remedies that work best:

Get some baking soda and put it in a dish with a little water. Swish it around on your toothbrush until you get a paste and then brush. After that, use good ole Listerine. That stuff will burn the oral mucosa right out of your mouth. Should be good to go...

Doc

I was going to suggest something similar... a while ago I picked up some Arm and Hammer Baking Soda and Peroxide tooth paste... stuff tasted like $hit but when I woke up my mouth was fresh with almost no residuals of cigar breath!! that and some listerine im sure would kick it in the mouth!

Perfect Jerry, just perfect. I hope you are coming to the MN herf!

I used to get bad cigar breath until I modified my post-smoke brushing technique. Don't brush your teeth like you would normally do. Keep in mind that the smoke has permeated all the soft oral tissues too - gently brush your tongue, the insides of your cheeks, your gum crevices, and(most importantly) your soft palate. The soft palate and tongue are where most of the smell seems to accumulate, and just swishing them with mouthwash doesn't really work as effectively as a mild scrubbing. Mints and the like tend to just add an additional layer over the stink, and your S.O. will probably notice this but not point it out because you were considerate enough to try and get rid of the cigar smell.

Wow, it took four pages before someone mentioned the correct brushing technique. Here are some other things you can do.

Prevention: Drink some water (no or little ice) with a slice of lemon in it while you are smoking. This cleanses the palate, you cigar or pipe will taste better and your mouth will smell less. In general, the more you drink and wash out of the mucus the better.

Directly afterwards: Use one of the listerine breath papers. Sorry, i forgot what they are called but they are paper-thin like a postage stamp. You put them on your tongue and let them melt. Also good to put one in if ever you wake up during the night.

Mouthwash: Should be used before brushing. I use Targon Smoker's mouthwash, also is supposed to help with tobacco stains on your teeth.

General stuff to get rid of odor: Lemon (citrus), baking soda, coffee, cardamom (ever been to an Indian restaurant? There are the little granules they give you after the meal to cleanse your mouth and help with digestion; cardamom is one of the ingredients).

To get rid of residual smells of food or drink e.g. garlic, whisky, cigar: Chew fresh mint; it's delicious. Drink a glass of milk or eat a plain yoghurt. Even some dark chocolate is quite effective.

Someone said you want to get rid of bacteria. For ordinary mouth odor problems this is correct. But here we are talking about an odor or taste that is introduced from the outside and has nothing to do with bacteria.

Personally, I find that pipe smoke is much more clinging to the mouth and smells worse than cigar. My Gf agrees, by the way.
