Tatuaje Black Label

Young Ape
I was lucky enough to get a few black labels tonight and decided to smoke one. The first thing I noticed about this stick was the beautiful construction. It had a dark brown smoother wrapper that really looked delicious.

The prelight flavors I got were some coffee and an earthy flavor. Heres a pic of my smoking buddy

As I smoked this the thing that stood out to me was how amazing the construction was. The burn was even until I nubbed it with a nice white ash that held really long. Flavor wise I got a lot of coffee in the beginning with more creamy and earthy flavors as it went on. If you can get these, get as many as you can :tu they're really good.

Thanks for the review... I've got two sitting in my humi to try, but I'm waiting for the right time.

A great cigar. I am looking for some more singles to avoid cracking the bundle of OR's I have, and my jar...:ss

I was given 1 Tat Black four weeks ago and just finished a few minutes ago.

WOW:tu

I have had about 1/3 of the Tatuaje line and believe this is the most powerful Tat I've had.

This was a great cigar and I feel it will only get better with age.

By the way, the same person gave me 1 from the newest line of Tats. I forget the name (Le something) but I think it is also a very promising line of cigars. It was too fresh to give a fair review, but with some time on them, I believe it will also be a great cigar.

My quest for now is to get as many Blacks as I can lay my hands on. I think they are that good and can only imagine what the first year releases will be like in four or five years.

Good review. I don't mean to hijack your thread but I wanted to add a few comments. ;)

I bought 10 Tatuaje blacks from Fuller's Pullers and got them in yesterday. I smoked two last night and one more this morning and in all honesty I just don't get the hype on this cigar. I gotta hand it to Pete Johnson because I think he is a marketing genius but the cigar itself I find to be nothing special.

The burn as you said was great. The flavor isn't bad although I would describe it as a little dry and definitely more wood flavor than the other Tatuajes. For me it wasn't nearly as full bodied as I have read. I would say on the light medium side.

Don't get me wrong it's a decent smoke. And just to try it I would suggest Tatuaje fans pick one up. But go easy before you commit to a fiver or a whole jar. Because I love Tatuajes and various other Pepin products but this one is somewhere around the bottom to me.

Had one of these this evening while cutting the grass. It was great!
The first 1/3 was very strong and then it moved to a medium bodied smoke the rest of the way. Will be interesting to see how these do sometime down the road.

Wow great review, you make my mouth water. I have not seen any of the Tatuaje line at my local b&ms bot after reading your review I will keep my eye out!

Got a fiver a little over a week ago. I have to say I'm disappointed so far. Definitely need some down time as they are no good fresh.

Overall the burn and draw for the first half was spot on but the taste was inconsistent. It showed signs of something special at times, tasting mostly of coffee and toasted wood with a nice touch of spice. However, far too often I got an ammonia taste as well as another sour kind of bitter taste I couldn't place. At the halfway point, the cigar basically just went out, with the exception of one side. It was attempting to tunnel very badly, worst I've seen but I caught it early and re-lit and purged it.

Right after the purge, which by the way was one of the largest, longest lasting purges I've ever seen (we're talking minutes), it actually tasted quite fine. After a couple more draws, about five minutes later it turned bad again. The burn stayed fine until there was about 2 inches left, maybe 1.5 and it tried to really tunnel again.

I'm not writing these off as it showed hints of what it may become, but this one is getting a 2/10. The other four won't be smoked for a while. I think I'll give it 3 to 4 months before trying another.

On the bright side, this probably saved me a lot of $$$.

I pulled one of these out of my humidor last night. I thought it was great. It was considerably better then the one I smoked about three months ago. I still didn't get a ton of spice, and the draw was a bit tight, but those are my only complaints.
Full flavors of coffee beans and cream tempered the earthy base. This is probably one of PJ's most balanced blends. I would compare this line more to the red label then to the brown.
This one is the last single I have before I crack the jar, I think I've got 4 months left. Considering one? Go for it!
