The best (stogie) advice you ever received

I have heard a lot of good advice on taking up the 'hobby'. smoking, lighting, selecting, cutting- the list goes on! So of it all what has helped keep your face smiling and your humidor full more then anything?

My pick came from my uncle-ish and it is Never finish a cigar just to finish it.

I like this one a lot because a lot of smokes make me feel compeled to go all the way to the finger tips with. like a Opus X you wait 3 months for or a 25 dollar Davidoff Millennium. Quite often these are the excact smokes that are notoriously full bodied (Opus....) or heavy and complex and can leave you knocked on your arse and quesy or fighting half way through just to get to the end, to get your time or moneys worth.

So (continuing the advice) if your happy with the smoke, walk away. If your not feeling the smoke or your in a rush... walk away. You cant force yourself into enjoying a smoke it will happen or it wont. :D

That's good advice. I stop smoking when I'm not enjoying the cigar anymore, whether that's halfway or burning my fingertips. I also try not to smoke unless I can devote at least an hour to the cigar, to make sure I can fully enjoy it without feeling hurried or rushed. I think your frame of mind has alot to do with the enjoyment of a cigar.

don't ever smoke a Cremosa.....the words of wisdom from my best mate galaga after the Da klugs sponsored Cremosa -Tamboril face off

Let the sticks rest when you get em, to avoid the sick period. I try, but the gravity of the slope sucks me in. Must.. step away.. from.. youthful temptations. Snip, light, puff puff. Hmm.. very nice, but these are young. You get the picture. :w

Love the one you're with.

Buy a bigger humidor than you ever think you will need.

The lil guys will kick your a$$

Go off the beaten path

Great advice!!

The best advice I ever received was that you don't have to spend $10-$20 to buy a great cigar. Padron 2000 = $3.75, as well as many others.

going down the list i wanted to quote most of you with a LOL or :D
see good advice good times good people :w

Im am a victem of buying too small a humidor not once but twice! no i have to do 'rounds' on my 50 cigar, 100 cigar and 175 cigar humidor. all full, all a pain in the arse!!!

That's one contest I'm glad I had no part of.

From one of the great BOTL's here:

"Take your time with this newfound obsession. There's a lot to learn and even more to smoke. Enjoy your path into cigars and never rush into anything. Patience."

Stay away from www.cigarbid.com

I should have listened :hn

I honestly don't get the big deal about cigarbid. To me it's the biggest scam going. Well second to room full of Arubans whacking idjuts out of their money on some stupid fixed internet poker site. Does anyone believe the supposed list of bids on each and every cigar? I don't.

I agree.......some of the deals are marginally reasonable........some are highway robbery. There's a current auction for 5 Anejo Sharks for $122.......YIKES!!!!

hijack off.......

nice thread and good advice...................I don't care how much I paid, if it's not enjoyable, I shut it down and pitch it.......there's always another one waiting in the wings!

Best advice I found about this hobby-

Whenever you move to or find yourself in a new town, go to the nearest cigar store and introduce yourself to the people inside. You will find yourself less homesick by walking in the door.

Don't feel compelled to smoke a tight cigar, just toss it and move on to another one. There's nothing more tortuous than smoking, or I should attempting to smoke a tight cigar. It doesn't matter if Fidel himself gave it to you, but if it's tight, just move on...
