They charge what?

I just got back from Las Vegas and found out just how crazy people are when it comes to purchasing an Opus X.

I was at a casino and figured I would take a break and go smoke a cigar outside. I forgot my smokes at the hotel and begrudgingly walked over to the cigar stand (Davidoff) at the edge of the gambling area. I didn't really take my time to look and it was hard to see what they had in the glass case. A box of Opus X caught my eye and figured that now would be a good time to try one. I do realize that they are going to try inflate prices, but what I soon found out was ridiculous. He grabbed the Perfecxion #5 and rang up the cigar. He was taking it out of its cellophane when he told me the price. "That'll be $56.", he said. I almost dropped my drink and quickly told him to put it back. I might of had more than a few free drinks in me, but not nearly enough to pay that much. That's just :BS. I thought maybe all of their cigars were that rediculously overpriced and asked what else he had. I told him I'd take a Padron 1964 and that was only a few dollars over what my local B&M charges. The sad part was that as I walked away from the counter I heard two people ask for the Opus.

Lesson learned: Don't forget your cigars at the hotel. If you don't bring them, try and find a B&M NOT in the casino.

Welcome to Vegas. Everything inside the casinos is going to overpriced that is business rule number one, right. Supply and demand. Like you said people are paying those prices now so why change. I have been to Vegas a handful of times and inside the casino they charge you more because they think you would rather have it now then to leave and try and find it somewhere else.

Charge prices like that still isn't right it is just the way it is.

Well said. I also think that there are a lot of people there that will smoke a cigar in Vegas that don't normally smoke cigars. They don't know what they should pay and see a $56 cigar and think it's going to be the best. Little do they know, they are getting ripped off.

It's like cruise ships. I tried to buy a cigar there and the price about floored me. I told the liitle girl, no offense, I know she didn't set the price, but I would smoke my own.

Those prices are also another reason that anyone coming to Vegas should get a hold of us in the LV crew...as a result...you would have paid A LOT less for most high end things...

I saw similar prices like that at a place in Nanuet, NY this summer. While they weren't as bad as $56, I laughed when I saw that they were like $35 and $40.

It's only because you knew the real price that you refused to pay that much. I have the same problem with wine in restaurants. I refuse to pay the 100% + mark up on the wine they serve. I think in most cases people are unaware of premium items and their real prices. They are having a good time spend the $56 and enjoy that cigar as the best they have ever had. Have you ever heard the expression "ignorance is bliss"?

And that's exactly how they can get away charging those prices. I just laugh when I think that the people willing to pay that much will probably brag about their high-priced smoke later.

Well 56 dollars is slightly over what we pay here in The Netherlands
(32 euros, approx. 50 dollars) so the first few visits to Vegas I didn't really
look any further.

However, I found that in Vegas there are a few B&M's that have fair
prices, cigarbox has been the store of choice for me so far, good prices,
friendly people who know what they are talking about and a decent
selection of sticks.

To each their own. Restaurant mark up for alcohol is absurd everywhere. I tend to be particular with wine, and will rarely drink a whole bottle at dinner. The glass selection is worth the price hike to me based on how much I'll consume and how good the selection is. Same with scotch. I'm not about to go out and buy a bottle of Glenmorangie 25yr but you better believe that if I find it in a restaurant, I'm getting a glass of it!! :dr

I'm the same way. I sit there and think for two drinks at a restaurant I can buy a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer.

If you really want to see some prices next time go over to Casa Fuente in the Forum Shops at Caesars. The laughs just keep on coming!!!!!!

Casa's prices are not THAT bad considering where they are. I stop there every time I am in Vegas. This last time, I just bought a GOF for $35 (worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY) and a Casa Fuente House cigar (Corona sized) for $18. Worth it, IMHO.
