traveling/vacationing with cigars

Hey guys i have a few questions. I currently don't have any type of humidor...im very new and i just buy whatever cigars i need for the day or whatever. I'm assuming a cigar in the plastic bag will be fine for a day or 2 outside a humidor in house temp conditions...? What about bringing cigars on vacation with me. Say i'm going to the shore for a week or so and want to bring a few with me...how should i go about this? Ive seen the travel humidors but are these really necessary?

thanks for any help you can give the newb

I'll go out on a limb and say that they would be fine in the ziploc bag for a week. Cigars tend to be a little wet straight from the B&M anyway, at least in my experience. As long as you only open it to take one out and close it right back up again I am betting it would be OK.

Another idea, depending on how many you plan to take with you, is a leather 4 or 5 finger cigar case. These may or may not have a humidification device in them. I keep mine in my cooler so that the veneer of spanish cedar it is lined with will have some moisture, but that is not an option for you I guess.

For several summers before I bought a fancy travel case, I just went to the local shop and got a cigar box that would fit into a gallon zip lock bag. Put the cigars in the box with a water pillow and put the box in the bag.

Worked great even on 2 week vacations; just keep it cool and out of sunlight.

All the above are viable options. My advice would be to go with a 15ct or even the 5ct Otterbox or something similar. Humidity control and protection, plus you can get a 15 ct for under $30.

I agree with several posters here. Water pillows are a GREAT invention. Get a few and you'll be good to go whenever you want.

If tight money is an issue, you can even save on the cost of the water pillows by buying them in the reptile area of a Petco or Petsmart big box pet store rather than buying them at a cigar store.

I agree, a baggie with no air is good, for longer tupperware makes some smaller containers with a small piece of florist foam inside should be good.

when i fly I use an old cigar box + ziplock bag for the sticks + damp paper towel in another ziplock bag. works great even in texas heat

:tpd: 100%... that's some sound advice there. I have a 30-50 count that I use as regular storage and if I ever need to grab some sticks and go in a hurry it's already ready. More stable even than my cooler!

I hate to admit it but :tpd:

I have an Armador brand, same thing, GREAT to have a round!!

As stated above, the Otterbox is an awesome product (although I am biased as I carry them :).
They are rugged, waterproof and will last forever. They also come in a variety of sizes from 2 stick - 30 stick.
