Using desktop humi for a coolidor?

Hi there folks,

I'm interested in getting a coolidor. But the problem is i don't have many boxes and i don't live near a B and M.

I currently have a desktop humi 30ct that has served me well. Right now I can barely close it because it is overflowing.

Just wondering if this makes sense ?

Would it be possible for me to just put the desktop inside the cooler and leave the lid open? Then the spanish cedar in the desktop can be the wood used to regulate my humidity. I also have a small tube of heartfelt beats, and gel to help also.

Thoughts?

Phil

(sigh) .... it truely is the first thing to go as one ages .. lol

Cheers,

thanks for the info guys.

Bear, i've a CS member in Quebec trying to learn french. But I'm originally from Alberta. HEHE

Thanks though for the french, i understood :)

Thanks for your help guys,

i'll go check out walmart now

PS. should i get a cooler? would those rubbermaid boxes work? i don't think they're all airtight though

Why is everyone concerned about putting cedar in their coolers? Just leave the cigars in the boxes they came in. If you have tons of singles, go get some cigar boxes from your local B&M. They should be free or $2 per at the most.

I think it is sad you are going to put something nice looking into an ugly cooler.

Any chance there is a b&m nearby that you can score some old boxes from?

If you have a lot of singles, 5pks, or bundles (like I do), get yourself a few cedar trays. I've for 4 in my cooler. Cigars I buy by the box stay in their boxes.

thanks guys

i went with a 48 qt and just ordered half pound of heartfelt 65%

hope it arrives before my new order of sticks

In my opinion, I don't think beads or other humidification devices are necessary when storing cigars in such a small place. I have a 48qt as well, and I just rely on the ambient humidity of the cigars themselves. I can go a month or 2 with the humidity only dropping a percentage point or two. if it gets lower that 63% I just put a saturated paper towel in the cooler.

Well, it depends. Where I live it's about 55% humidity. If I open the cooler a few times a week, it's going to dry out fast.

Also it's not worth the risk of damaging several hundred dollars worth of cigars because you were too cheap to buy $50 worth of beads.

Personally I run beads, a humicare, and an oust fan.

I've been going beadless for 2 years now, never had a problem. I often have to pull out multiple trays, or boxes, to find the cigar I want, again no problem. But, what ever works for you.
