As part of my search for Ronson Jetlites (ChasDen is taking care of me there, thanks ) I visited my local B&M today trolling for 5 Vegas Golds. They don't carry them (at least not yet) but I tried out the Blazer lighter, very nice, and also has a lock to keep the flame on for you toasters out there (like me).
Even as one who understands 'Buy once, cry once' at $55 it was more than I was ready to pay for a lighter lol (though I do admit there is a link somewhere around here where you can order a two pack of Blazers for $60 which appears to be in my near future :dr ).
They had this Vertigo lighter there which had a couple of features I was looking for beyond the Bic I had been using.
As some of you toasters no doubt have experienced, the wheel on the Bic gets nuclear fusion hot if held for any length of time. So if you slip/flame goes out and try to relight .......... well, you get a nice two-day burn injury to your thumb. :hn
Therefore feature one was a method to keep it lit, comfortably, and be able to relight it immediately without issue.
Feature two was blue flame jet to improve toasting ability.
Feature three was good looks.
The Ronsons (and the Blazer, looking good in its own utilitarian way) met these requirements and the Vertigo, for ~$15 met these as well.
Been pretty consistent in the short time I've had it, lighting each time I've tried it and staying on for as long as I hold it. The immediate area around the flame does get hot, but you'll see from the pic its not an issue.
My one disclaimer is that I'm still looking forward to the arrival of the Jetlite but see no drawbacks so far with this Vertigo. Runtime is still to be determined.
This is the Vertigo Royale in Gunmetal (one year manuf warranty).
The pics, including one showing the lighter 'in use'.
