Victor Sinclair Cigars...

Temp Ban for Rules Violation
Could someone please advise me on whether or not CI's One-Day Deal is worth purchasing today? I've never even had a Victor Sinclair cigar of any kind whatsoever, but at that price, it almost looks like it's worth trying. I'm used to a medium-full flavor palate and enjoy cigars such as Pepins, Oliva Os and Vs, LFD DLs, and 5 Vegas Miami and Series A just to name a few. Would any of the cigars listed in this deal appeal to me in that case? All comments and feedback are appreciated.

I had one on Friday night, the burn was bad; when it would stay lit that is, and the flavor was like cardboard. Granted though it's the only one I've had so it could have been a dud. :2

I don't recommend them as in MY experiences haven't been good. I would say to save up your cash for the smokes you already mentioned.

Good God they are huge! The Series 55 sungrown & corojos I used to think were decent, but I haven't smoked one in about two years.

The maduros will be dyed, or painted.

The Primeros are airballs IMHO.

In a nutshell, you may have half decent & half crap in that sampler. Of course, YMMV.

Guys, I sincerely appreciate all your feedback and have decided against it. It's good to have a network of BOTLs/SOTLs who you can always count on for advice! :tu

I like a few of the Sinclairs, but to me they seem to be hit and miss. I actually like the Triple Corojo and the Vintage, for the price they are pretty good. But some of the others in the sampler I did not care for. I would just buy the one's I like but that sampler would be a great way to see if you did like any of them. And it is really up to YOU if you like them or not. :2

I liked the vintage selects, 55 corojo, bohemian reds, and 55 maduro (55 maduros, I've had a couple but never one that was dyed - I hope they aren't dyed anymore). Experience now tells me I can find much much better for the same price or less (http://www.thecigarfo.com/store/) . And a hell of a lot better for not much more money (ie Famous 3Ks)

The only ones I can recommend (and I keep a stash of) are the Connecticut Yankees. They have been reblended and re-banded however.

I have not yet tried the new triple corojo, nor the 10th Ani (but I have a few)

FWIW

I guess I've had a mostly bad experience with VS cigars. I bought a sampler from CI a long time ago on sale. The 55 Maduro, forget it... I tried smoking several over a period of months (they had been in my humidor) and I could never keep the things lit. I would light it correctly, take probably more puffs per minute than many people might, and the damn things always just died on spot. I would light again, and it 10 seconds later, dead. It was the most frustrating thing in the world. I have several left in my humidor and I want to throw them out the window.

Ans what is this about dyed maduro? It seemed like they were dyed to me. Is this a common process? It doesn't sound very appealing.

But I will say that someone gave me a Connecticut Yankee and it wasn't bad, in fact it was fairly enjoyable. I've also tried the Vintage Select and it was decent from what I remember. Maybe I've just had bad luck.

I like the Connecticut Yankee but they come very fresh from CI so in my noobish opinion, it's best to let them rest a bit. I've had some dogs but for the most part I find them very enjoyable for the price point.

The Triple Corojo is okay but again tasted like some age will do it well to knock off some of the rough edges.

I tried one of the 10th anniversary sticks last weekend and it was very disappointing. One of the guys said "cardboard" and I have to agree. The really bad part is that I had just come from having a fantastic meal at my sister-in-law's 50 birthday and I wanted to top it off with a good cigar (for me a cigar tastes best after I eat). As always, you get what you pay for, and then only if you shop smart!

I hate Victor Sinclair cigars, I will never buy them again. From what I've read there are two ways to make a maduro dark as they are=

1.) Aging
2.) Using dyes

I've had more than one situation where while smoking a Victor Sinclair cigar my lips turned black with crap.

:tpd: I picked up a VS sampler a few years back and was not impressed w/ the quality of the smoke. It wasnt repulsive by any means, but they felt very uninspired and boring.

Dang, Jason

I wish I had seen this thread before the herf last might. I would have brought you several on that list for you to judge for yourself. As it is, just PM me your addy, and I will send you a handful of different VSs for a taste test. I will say that there are several I think are OK, with the "Early Years" maduros being a better offering.

Drop me your addy.

I'm with Svillekid on this one. When I first picked this thing of ours up, I tried several (the red label mostly) and several were actually decent. But I'd have one that had plenty of flavor and then three or four from the same batch with little or no flavor or just portions of them with flavor.

The thing that kind of turned me away from looking at them as even an entry level serious cigar was the painted stick. Dyeing a cigar probably reminds some here about that girl they knew in high school who was always flirty and suggestive in class and at lunch but who turned into a nun on dates. Or that guy who ran around in the car with the big hood scoop, equipment stickers and wide tires but never bothered doing anything to the engine. It just isn't right.

If I've got any left I'll PM you: say the word and they're yours. One red label in particular I recall was very good, but none I tried subsequently rose to that level.

Thanks again for all the feedback and generous offers, guys! Looks like I'll have some to try here shortly and I'll let everyone know what I thought.
