What's up with my Oliva's.

The past two Oliva V series I've smoked (Belicoso and Lancero) have had serious burn issues. One tunneled and the other had a really bad plug in it. It's getting really annoying to have a good smoke and then it craps out on you. None of my other cigars have had any serious burn issues, including cigars I've had from the same B & M. Any reason why this is happening? Do these cigars just need more rest than others?

I don't have a tunneling problem with Oliva Serie 'V', but I do have an occasinal light-out on the cigar where if I laid it out for more than 5 minutes without puffing, it would goes out and I have to relight it again. Otherwise than that the cigar flavor and taste is great. I kept my go-to-smoke cigars in an empty cigar box with no humidifier since I am in TX and the humidity is at 60 - 75 % range most of the time during the summer.

Good smoke to all ... :w

When did you buy these? If recently, any chance they have been sitting at your B&M for awhile? I know the first release of these had some wrapper issues that they have since addressed and cured. So if these are 6 months or older that could be your reason although it would not explain the plugged issue. If it was the Lancero that was plugged I would not be surprised as this in my opinion seems to happen more often in that vitola than any other. The Lancero V tends to be a little tight to begin with from the 5-6 I've smoked.

I picked them up almost 2 weeks ago. My B & M seems to go through a lot of these because he has a good price on them. The lancero was the cigar that plugged.

Handmade cigars are handmade and every now and then a construction issue can arise. 2 cigars is not enough to write off a line, lanceros have a greater chance to be plugged because of the this RG and the other could have been rolled poorly, over humidified, the wind may have been to strong, etc. etc. etc.

However try more and more and if you continue to have the issues you have 2 choices, to change the way you smoke or what you smoke:2

I never had a problem with the Oliva cigars and I smoke a ton of them. They burn great, all the series. If your guy sells a lot then they might need to sit in your humidor for a while to get adjusted to the right humidity level.

I've never had a problem with mine, other than slight wrapper tear. I have also heard the new ones are a little different than the original release.

I've only had one V, it was a lancero. It was plugged so bad I gave up after an inch.

I have not given another a try, I don't feel that spending money on another at the moment is in my best interests

I have a box of Oliva V Belicosos and I have found that my last 2 or 3 have been semi plugged, 68 degrees, 66% humidity for months. I'm going to hope its just bad luck and my next ones will be great.

Olivas aren't very good IMO. They're one of the most overrated cigar lines available. I'm not putting anyone down, I just personally think that they're extremely ordinary, and they're currently fashionable.

All my stuff is in the humi at 62-65% humidity. I have temperature problems because of the weather here lately because the temps have fluctuated. The rest of my cigars have been doing ok as far as burn is concerned.

The majority of my "V" Double Robusto's ended up splitting at the foot. They sat in their box side by side with boxes of the Belis, Torps and Figs which are all in great shape and are smoking great. These were all 1st issue "V's". I guess the newer ones come wrapped in cello. Sort of sucked to find my sticks spilt open. As far as possible storage problems I have boxes of Olivas with a number of years on them sitting in the same storage cabinet, again no problem.

For what's it's worth I wrote the Oliva Cigar Company asking what gives? Have yet to receive a reply.

I had a O Robusto tunnel on me the other day and that was the first and only construction problem I have had with the Master Crafter.

I need to touch up V Double Robusto's from time to time, but I think that is becasue I hit it like a freight train becasue it is so damn good.

I do realize I offered no help here, but thought I would chime in anyway.:tu

I smoke mainly Serie G maduros in the Oliva line. I have had a couple of Vs, had no problem with them. I believe that mine were made after the early production problems.

Had my first V topedo earier this week, and it did not burn great. I attributed that tothe fact that it was coming out of my travel humidor, and the day in there may have impacted the humidity a bit.

I love the Serie G Special G for a quick smoke, and have never had a problem with them. Have a couple of bigger G's and a couple more V's in the humi now . . . but they may get sacrificed to my enjoyment this evening.
