What's your fav "underappreciated" cigar?

Padron, AF, Cubans, etc. have legions of fans, get lots of press and discussion, and claim some of the highest ratings. Nub, 5 Vegas, Flor de Oliva and Sancho Panza are wildly popular and have their devoted smokers. Some are among my favorites as well, and the acclaim and popularity is well deserved for each, I'm sure.

What I'm talking about here is a cigar that you really enjoy that may not get a lot of buzz on these forums, or is not typically that highly rated.

For me, it would have to be the Henry Clay, either the Brevas Finas or the Rothchilde. When I first started down the slippery slope a few years back, I went into the local B&M and asked for something "sort of mild, but not too mild". Well, the older gentleman there suggested the Henry Clay. While I found it to be anything but "mild", I was blown away by it's rich flavor, and it opened a new door for me to fuller-bodied smokes.

Last month, while on vacation, I took along a small humidor with an assortment of smokes including the ones I've been smoking the most of lately (different Padrons,AF's, CAO Brazillia, Partagas Black), all of which I love. I dug deep one night and pulled out a Henry Clay that I'd forgotten about. I figured what the hell and fired it up, only to have a surprisingly enjoyable smoke. It was quite different from the one's I had gotten used to, but brought back a flood of memories. Needless to say, it's now back in the rotation.

The Punch Rothschild Oscuro. Cheap at 2.99 at my local b&m and very flavorful. Straight up tobacco flavor with a nice kick. Punch is always a "goto" cigar and I never refuse one if offered.

for me its the Habanos Puros Fuerte line. I love these smokes, especially the little #4. Huge flavor, but never harsh.

I am a big fan of the Torano Exoduds 59's, and the Torano Signature Perfecto. Torano cigars don't seem to get a lot of press, but I think they are a great smoke. I bought a box of 59's that are about two years old and they seem to keep getting better every time I pull one out of the humi. Now that I think of it, it is time for another box if the Signature Perfectos, I smoked my last one the other day.:ss

I know Don Pepin Garcia is a huge name in the cigar industry but my daily "go to" smoke is the Black Label Perla (1952) and it doesn't seem to be talked about too much. It's a beautiful, very tasty 30-45 minute smoke that has never let me down. I think it was rated 88 in CA or CI but it is my favorite. And best of all, one place has them for $50 for a box of 20 and another place for $55. That's the best deal for me.

I also like Toranos. I have only had the 1916 Cameroon, which I really enjoyed (corona and robusto) and I just got a 5-pack of Virtuoso Crescendos from Cbid today. I'd love to try the Exodus 1959s. They have been on my "to try" list for awhile now but there are so many out there to try. Too many cigars, not enough $.

I agree with you on the Henry Clay cigars. They were some of the first med. cigars that I smoked and now that I think of it it has been about a year soooo. It's time to back to an old friend!

I think Henry Clay are pretty good too.

My faorite unappreciated cigar comes from a big brand though.. the Montecristo Media Noche. I don't see much love for it around here or at least mention of it and it is definitely one of my favorites.

Mine is the Sancho Panza, the double maduro and extra fuerte seem to get alot of press but never the original line. The Valiente is my favorite mourning cigar, great with a cup of coffee.

I'm a noobie here, but quickly finding out that I like medium-full flavored maduros.

That being said, so far the 2 that I really look forward to lighting up are the 5 Vegas 'A' Series (especially the Apostle) and the Punch Chateau L Maduro.

Cuba Aliados toros extras and the new Reyes Family Cigars Premier perfectos are reasonably priced smokes with tons of flavor and that oldtime Cuban strength.

The El Original Toro Maduro from the Island Smoke Shop in Key Largo, Florida is the dickstompinest cigar on this planet.
It's the cigar I measure all others against when I hear the words "Full Bodied" or "Strong".
Smoke one of those babies and it's a three day comittment. I'm pretty sure the finish is loaded with fish hooks, cause it can't be shook. :)
Absolutely fabulous smoke at a very fair price.

A recent smoke that really impressed me that I hear next to nothing about is the Padilla Habano. It's totally outside what I look for in a cigar, wouldn't think it was to my taste at all, but they're delicious. :tu

Cusano P1
JR alts (Cuban Alts)
T. Mercedes
Victor Sinclair Vintage Select

And my favorite machine made:

Los Statos De Luxe!
Greatest CC machine made out there. Not much mention of it here at CS.

I think a fairly well-kept secret is the wide range of La Flor Dominicans out there. While you read a lot about the Chisel or Litto Gomez I am always impressed by any less pricy single or double ligero I can get my hands on--strong but smooth, great taste, and really get better and better with age. To me they define consistency and quality. With most brands I will find myself leaning towards either the natural or maduro. With LFDs the two wrappers both are excellent and I would gladly smoke either without preference.

I have never had 'em long enough to find out what five years plus would do, but my guess is they might keep improving. Btw CI has great regular prices on them when they are in stock.
