When do you restrict your smoking?

I remember reading a quote once (maybe it was Arturo Fuente himself) that said "Cigar smoking is a hobby, not a habit."

So, my fellow gorillas, in what situations would you tell yourselves "I'm intentionally not going to smoke for a while?"

As a pastor, I use my voice quite a bit as well. Holy week and Christmas week are two times I usually stay away from my pipe and cigars.

Also, if my allergies act up badly - or I get sick.

As I only smoke about 4-7 a week, it isn't like I am a heavy smoker to begin with.

I usually keep it to 1 or 2 a week for a couple of reasons.

1. Can't really afford to spend too much money on cigars so I try not to go through them too quick.

2. Like saving them for when i'm hanging out with my buddies usually on the weekend.

3. I work from home and if I wasn't disciplined about it I could find myself taking two hour cigar breaks every day on the deck and I have enough distractions as it is.

Only when mom or Aunti is around...Dad had a stroke a few years back and has never been the same man so they attribute it to his drinking/smoking cigarettes/non-exercise. (it didn't help) It's also too difficult to explain to old Asian women that cigar is not the same as a cigarette.

I only smoke cigars during the warm months. Usually from about April to mid November, because I like to smoke outside on my porch or out in the yard with the fire pit burning. I don't smoke in during the cold months. I use that as time to restock my humidors and letting my sticks rest for the coming warm months again.

That, and for some reason, I seem to think I'm lowering my risk by not smoking year round. However, in the winter I will occassionally get the urge so I'll head to the smoking lounge of my local B&M.

I agree with a few others, the obvious answer is when I'm sick. However, it's usually when I've had a week like I just did in which I smoked about twice my regular amount. I like to balance things out a bit so if I go on a smoking binge one week, then I tend to smoke less then next one.

I often don't smoke because there is often no convenient place or time for me to smoke. I can't smoke in the house, and being cold outside takes away any enjoyment for me, so I'd rather stay in and warm with no cigar than freeze and shivver with one.

Also, between feeding the kids, putting them to bed, getting some dinner in me, trying to get a bit of exercise in, it's often pretty late for an hour plus cigar for me. I guess I end up restricting based on time and convenience.
Looks like we share a similar life.

I usually only smoke on my days off. Since I work 12 hrs days I don’t really have time to smoke on days I work but the way my schedule works I usually don’t work more than three days in a row and then I have two or three days off. Works well for me.

Being dead count?

I smoke cigs. as well as cigars so unlees I am in a place I am not aloud to fire up then I am usually smoking something.

I don't smoke during bow season. I try and stay as free of pungent human odors as I can for those couple of months. I lay off the garlic, too.

I only lay off on the days that I go to work. I have been known to take a stick with though. Mainly my wife and I have a routine. The baby goes to bed at 8 p.m., we get things done around the house until around 10 p.m. and then we sit out side and I have a smoke and we sit and have a few drinks. It has really become our time to unwind, talk about our day and relax before going to bed.:pp

I agree with the fellow new smoker, on the second page about not having many cigars. I don't have that many, and I try to slow down and drag them out to enjoy. I don't get any cravings really, other then looking at humidors and or looking to buy cigars online. The wife and I are really strapped for cash right now so I'm just holding out with my current tiny stash of cigars smoking them after a big dinner, or just taking a time out of the day to enjoy one. Gotta say thats the only craving, being an avid hunter I love being outdoors. Any moment I can get a chance to sit outside (and not riding ) for a few hours I'll usually try and find a cigar to enjoy.

I've had some cigars which I really didn't like and it sort of set me off of smoking cigars for a couple days. Other then that, agreed with the obvious answer if I am sick I won't smoke either.

I've got a cabinet Humi with about 1500 cigars in it. Sometimes i'll go weeks or even a month between cigars. Other times like this last weekend I had 4 at my buddy's Stag party weekend. I find that I thoroughly enjoy smoking socially with friends and that's about it. Sitting down and smoking a cigar for an hour + by myself is a pretty low priority. (Flame shield on :w )

I never restrict my smoking.

Rules, laws, environment and other people restrict my smoking enough.

Only when I'm sick, or kidnapped and trapped in the trunk of a 1988 Chevy Cavalier with no cigar and no means of escape. The latter has yet to happen, so really just when I'm sick.
