Where have all the old Apes gone??

drevim

I got nothing here
One thing I tend to do in the wee hours of the AM, once I've read through all the current posts, is to jump into the archived stuff or do random searches for sticks. As I read through these ancient scrolls of wisdom, I see lots of lost primates that have dropped from the family for whatever reason.

I was just curious if any of the long term LLGs have kept up with any of the ones that have left, on a private basis? I know Hollywood disappeared for awhile, but came bursting back on the scene. But this seems to be the exception, not the norm.

It just strikes me odd, that someone can run up 100s (if not 1000s) of posts over the course of a year or better, and then just drop out all together. Even if I didn't post, I would like to think I'd still lurk, just to keep up on the CS life. I know real life can often get in the way of our fun stuff, but it's kind of sad to look back over the old posts, see that there were some serious contributors, and now they are gone.

Just one of things that make me wonder......

PS - I'm not referring to Kwagga or Habanohal (just in case you read this Klugs):D

What do you consider an "old ape?" Lots of people come & go. Some of them pop in once & a while. Many, for whatever reason, don't wish to be seen.

For example.....if ape years in the jungle are like dog years, then I am only about 14. ;)

Fair question, and one that I didn't clarify....

Someone who was active on the forum for the better part of a year (say 2003 thru 2004) and hasn't been on since July of 2005. So it isn't a matter of lurking, it is a matter of "last logged on 7-6-2005" per the personal info screen.

And I'm not sure how we gauge ape years, is it 1 to 7, you old Fn gorilla?? :r

Chalk it up to the fluidity of cyberspace. For a long time, there were 5 or 6 firearm BBs I posted on religously every day. Now, there's only one or two I'll check in on once or twice a week.

Peoples interests change or get put off to the side to focus on other pressing matters. Or they just get bored with the subject. Or they get frustrated because they can't type well. Or they get PO'd from lack of porn.

Take your pick.

Alot of the FOG's still come here and View, Post , and Lurk. They may log on in an invisible mode. Also, some may have left us, but are remembered fondly for the time they have contributed and the help they have given to the newbies while they were with us.

in the center of the jungle, surrounded and protected by dark undergrowth and vicious predators, lies the grotto.

within the grotto, the great apes reside in tranquility, where they gather periodically to "herf" and discuss ancient lore.

occasionally a young chimp has caught glimpse of a great ape during it's infrequent trips from the grotto, and several have claimed to hear sage advice.

but passage into the grotto remains hidden, for it requires certain arcane knowledge to pass the many test and tribulations.

be warned young drevim for your queries may set you on the path...

Yep! And Grasshopper if you should recieve said glimpse, don't eat the mushrooms. Heed this warning young whippersnapper.

I haven't posted as much due to the job and my newborn son. Children will definitely tax your time, and there's not a darn thing wrong with that.

Kinda like gorillas in the mist. Occasionally the mist clears enough to catch a glimpse of a wise old ape or two. When this happens, listen to what they have to say, gorillas don't grow old by being foolish.
