hey all, Iam a new cigar smoker and have read alot in the past week. I am wondering what I should try first between all these brands i'm interested in: CAO, 5vegas, torano, oliva, cusano, rocky, a fuente, padron and perdomo.

fuente and padron are my two absolute favorite all around brands.
oliva follows closely in 3rd.
Any PAM is out of this world though. Enjoy!

Out of the one's you mentioned the Oliva are great, The Padron's, well their Padron's and the Rocky's ant bad. But you need to try all you can. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Happy clouds...Brian

i would just start smoking as many as you can get your hands on. Budget is going to become an issue at some point. The better you plan, the more cigars you're going to be able to smoke. My :2

I'd say pick up a padron 3000 Natrual. Sit down in a cumfy place, relax and enjoy, Don't puff to often so you don't get burned. go with the flow.

In looking for new favorites I have bought a number of samplers, and I have also gone to a couple of local B&Ms and picked a variety of cigars - some on the recommendation of the shop owner, some because I had read about them or they just looked intriguing. Even though I now buy about half a dozen brands with regularity, I still buy some brands and blends I have never tried before. You never know which stick may become your new favorite. The brands you listed are a good start. They will give you a good cross section of what is out there. Even if you don't like some of them, you might like another blend from the same manufacturer. Have fun trying out new things.

If you buy samplers, buy ones that you know what is in them. I would avoid the ones with "surprises", the so-called "brown bag specials". From what I have heard they contain a lot of inferior cigars. One good thing about samplers is that if there is a stick you really don't like, you aren't stuck with a bunch of them.

From what you listed I would recommend:

5 Vegas (A's are my favorites but all the lines are great)
Carlos Torano (Signatures are my favorites but the Exodus 1959 Golds are very good)
Rocky Patel (Vintage 1990 & 1992 are very good but the Sun Growns are my favorites)
Cusano 18 (Double Connecticut gets my vote, I have tried the Paired Maduro but it is not to my liking)

I would start with the Olivia line myself, but some of the older gorillas make a good point as well - just pick one and go with the flow.

Just start trying different smokes and find which you like. As you can tell there are fans of all the brands. If you asked me I would say start with a Padron 2000. Well I guess you did ask me since you posted the question here!

Depends if you want to start mild and expand your tastes to medium and then full flavored/body smoke.

CAO Golds are pretty light....a good place to start for beginners.

Each of the brands you list have sub series/lines that cover the entire spectrum of flavor and boldness.

I would say start out with the Torano's. Maybe the Virturoso or the 1916. Those are the smokes that got all my buddies hooked.

Happy Smokes

H3ll, light up one of each at the same time & go to town, boy!!
Like playing a pan flute, but no bad notes.:ss

Well, you can't go wrong with a Fuente 858 or a Chateau Fuente.. both great medium body smokes for around $4 a piece:ss

I posted one before but I changed my mind:

Start with a cheapy from your local candy store or gas station and then smoke a Padron,
That way you'l never smoke another one of those cheap onse again.

Several people have mentioned the Carlos Torano line, and I agree. This is one of the brands I regularly buy. The Casa Torano is a great choice for a new cigar smoker, and the Exodus 1959 is also excellent. In my opinion, you won't go wrong with anything in the Torano line. Some people have also mentioned Rocky Patel, and you will never find my humidor without Vintage 1990s and Edge maduros in it. For some reason the Vintage 1992 is harder to find, and I just picked up my first one this week. I'm sure it is as good as the rest of the line.
