Who do you trust?

Wondering: Where does everybody go for cigar reviews they can trust? (Let's just assume Top 25 Cigars.com makes the list... where else do you go for good info?)

I would see if there was a review posted here or on Herfer's Paradise. If I knew the reviewer and his tastes, it would be easy to see what review to trust.

Take a look at my post: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=126373

Most reviews have some value to them. Take a look around and find something or someone that agrees with your taste.

For the most part I always try them out for myself. Tastes vary a lot but when many reviews trash a smoke you can be pretty sure it is a bum cigar.

Happy hunting, that is 80% of the cigar experience!

If I really want to review a cigar before I buy it... I'll check out as many reviews as I can find... that way I can make my own conclusion based off several people's experiences, keeping them all in mind.

I too get most of my info here because there are usually several opinions to a paricular smoke. After that , I taste for myself.

Trust your sense of taste.

Do trades/PIF's here to try things or buy singles/samplers from the various vendors.

Or

Buy boxes of every cigar made in every brand. Smoke all of them and see which one's you prefer.

If I am in a cigar shop, I ask my wife to find it. She has a nose for the cigars that I would like unlike any other. Otherwise, I ask my friends, they know more than I do.

When I was younger and traveled out of the country, I relied on Cigar Aficionado ratings on Cubans of that year. But the problem there is the spotty quality control and lack of consistency.

Usually, I smoke it and if I like it, I buy more.

I have to say that I have gone through CA with a fine tooth comb but I prefer to get the opinions of gorrillas here.

Mostly because they don't try to impress with unnecessary comparisons to 7 year old Madagascar Vanilla. :ss

I learned a lot from Walt and stogiereview.com and can trust his opinions cause I feel we have similar tastes. But what's a great cigar to one tastes like crap to another, so you just gotta try some different things and go from there.

Agree with all of the above! I will usually like to try the CA top whatever, as well as the Top25cigar plus. If I can get a fiver, so much the better, but many are expensive, so I have to hope the one I buy is indicative of the brand. And indeed, general forum chatter fits into the equation as well. For eg, I really wanted to try a Strad, but after reading what fellow gorillas had to say about this mucho expensivo cigar, I decided to save my $$. It is kinda tough, because there are SO many brands and types in the brands! And taste is such an individual thing! So, bottom line, I guess I trust everyone, but I verify!

My own reviews, found under my name! (shameless promotion, I know)

I usually try not to read too many reviews before smoking a cigar, I want the most unbiased look at a new stogie before lighting up. The most I look into is really cigarcyclopedia and a bit of google to at least get all the stats on a cigar, I like knowing the countries involved. I enjoy the great amount of blogs out there and all the reviews here. if there is something just pulling on me that I see and want to smoke, yeah I go around finding as much reviews as possible about that cigar. Usually that means they cost to much for me. Reading the non-pro reviews is far more enjoyable than the mags in my opinion.

I see cigars or cigar ads or cigars on cbid then I ask here.
I also read all the reviews here.
I can't remember the last time I read a top 20 list because in my experience I've found some of the highest rated sticks are the worst I've ever tried.
It's easier for me to explain what I like to guys who are experienced and ask them to make suggestions. It's really narrowed down my hunt and made it easier to find things I like.
