Why do you smoke?

ChestBeating Bruin!
A funny thing happened last weekend when I was at my friend's house for a BBQ. To me, it seems that he has been intrigued with cigars since he has seen me smoking/enjoying them over the last several months (i.e. the weekly BBQ at his place). He has always been reluctant to try one, but somehow the stars aligned and he tried his first stogie, a RyJ No. 1. I tried to bring him up to speed on the various nuances of smoking cigars. Anyway, to cut to the chase, he seemed to enjoy it, but at one point said something like what am I looking for? Then I told him that it's not about about the destination, but about the journey...kinda like drinking a nice bottle of wine...enjoy the flavor/taste and see where it takes you. Then one of our friends chimed in and said that he drinks wine to get buzzed. That sort of got me thinking...why do I smoke? I'd have to say that I smoke for the enjoyment of what I'm smoking and the relaxation that it provides, especially after a good meal!

Anyway, why do you smoke?

I enjoy smoking cigars because I like the feeling I get from taking the time after a hard day at work, etc. to select the perfect smoke and take in the peace it gives me.

To sum it up, I'm sitting outside right now on a perfect evening, my two German Shepherds are lying at my feet, I can hear the crickets chirping, and I'm soaking in a nice cigar. When it's finished, I'll put the dogs away for the night and go inside and sleep well because I have completely scraped off the day's BS. How much better can I explain it?

Best. description. ever. :tu

It keeps me from killing my co workers and burning down the building. :D

Actually use cigar smoking to relax myself after a long days work. I used to think that this was a cheaper hobby than my previous relaxation hobby of highend audio....starting to question that decision....

:r I know what you mean. It's a LOT easier to justify buying a box of sticks than buying a new amp, pre/pro or $$$ inter connects. Smaller streams of payments as opposed to lump sums.

This past Sunday morning before Hurricane Gustav arrived, I sat at the end of my garage to take in the tropical storm breeze. I enjoyed a Vintage 1999 RP Conneticut and a cold cup of orange juice. During the experience I noticed how well this cigar gave great plumes of smoke probably due to marinating in the humidor for 8months. I took the time to dwell upon what was accomplished in my 35 years of existence and the possibility of losing my house. Well, fortunately losing my house did not happen and all is well. That is why I smoke because it gives me the opportunity to reflect.:pp

Aside from the relaxation im getting my fill before the pleasure police make it illegal to enjoy myself. Si i guess it is because i can lol....... for now

My reasons are pretty much the same as most of the replies. Taste is a big thing and there is something primal/peaceful in smoking a stogie. Kind of like watching a campfire.

And unless I'm mistaken, to get the nicotine fix. I may have to slow down a bit.:hn

I smoke because I enjoy it. The same reason I do a lot of things. On a deeper note....I enjoy the flavor, the relaxation time spent just watching the world and enjoying the moment, and anytime I can share a smoke with a friend makes it even better. There is never a bad time to sit back and enjoy life for what it is.

Simply because I love tobacco. And cigars, unlike cigarettes, etc., to me represent the purest form of tobacco.
