Why do you smoke?

I smoke for the relaxation. I also think the great friends I have made because of cigars is a great bonus to the hobby.

The first few times I tried a cigar it was hand-out "It’s a Boy/Girl" celebratory smokes from friends. Later, what got me really hooked was a way to help get over cigarettes. I'd buy a King Edward or Dutch Master just to get over the nicotine withdrawal when I quit smoking.

Once I got into premiums, I experienced the calming relaxation a cigar can bring and enjoy searching out subtle flavors each can present.

After that, I found the great friendships that can be made and downright pleasure that can be had while spending time and smoking with others.

I quit smoking cigarettes ten years ago, but for the last 5 years I've smoked them heavily when I drank alcohol (once or twice a week). I substituted cigars for cigarettes for past 4 months, and there's a big difference. I smoked cigarettes profusely; lit one when didnt need it, just because I had cracked a new beer or other drink. Lungs were terrible. Now I enjoy a variety of cigars several times a week with a couple drinks, esp. after work and dinner with a glass or two of cabernet sauv. It's immensely relaxing...I cant stay stressed with a good cigar in my hand. Also fun to try different flavor profiles and see what I like. Most of all, it's a luxury, not a habit...no strings attached. Lungs are much better too; no inhaling, just enjoying flavor.:ss

Because when you have a cigar, You really can't do anything else. Except sip on a drink or flip through a good book. You have the length of a cigar to be on 100% "you" time.
I like the smoke, its flavor and aroma.
While I feel relaxed, nicotine is a stimulant. I actually feel invigorated.
Good flavor, sunsets, good conversation etc. are bonuses.
Also, truthfully I also smoke because cooool buzz is guaranteed.

I agree, what better way is there to spend 1 - 1 1/2 hours without the stresses of life. Just you, maybe a good friend and a great smoke.
Sound great to me.

im kinda starting a ritual. just about every week on a friday night, i get home from work, eat something, and then head to my buddy's house for cigars. cigars are nice after work since its relaxing and they are something that i enjoy very much.

Great question. I think most of my reasons have been covered by everyone who chimed in. Taste. Relaxation. Friends. Too many to list.

Unlike other tobacco products; this hobby gives us so much. Most of the time the cigar is second to all the other benefits.

to get stoned! sorry i couldn't resist the hank williams qoute! with all seriousness though, definitely for relaxation!:ss

I think everyone said it very well. I love to sit on the back porch and know that for the next 30+ minutes I am committed to do nothing but enjoying that smoke an taking time for myself. I also really enjoy smoking while I am working on my Humi. Having a good smoke and working with the wood, watching my creation come to life. It is very relaxing. My wife has always supported me through my cigar smoking and recently she smoked one with me (just taking puffs off of mine) but still trying my passion. She looked at me and said "this is really relaxing". I must say it was great to have her company and good conversation out there sharing something I am passionate about. She keeps talking about smoking another one with me but this time she wants her own. :tu

I really enjoy the experience of finding new cigars. I'd say "collecting" but I'm not really at the point where I'm after rarities or oddities, so I don't want to put that the wrong way. Gives me something to look forward to at work...

Also, in my age age range at least, cigar smoking really isn't terribly popular. I don't want to ever be a snob or an elitist, but it is nice to have a certain thing to yourself. I share my cigars with friends when they want one, but still I'm the only one I know (of my group) that's really into the cigars--it just feels cool to have a lot of knowledge on something (though I'm not yet an expert).

That is why I smoke because it gives me the opportunity to reflect.:pp

I have never risked losing a house or anything that serious, but this rings true for me. Smoking I get to take an hour and be completely selfish - reflect on life and myself. Its a good thing.

Also, once you get into this site, the brotherhood is great. Its hard to describe without experiencing it, but its very special and everyone should experience it:D

Either it's the cigar itself or just taking the time to sit and do nothing else for an hour is incredibly relaxing. The variety of cigars and flavours just make the whole experience that more enjoyable.

I smoke because cigars are a total vagina magnet.......

(I'm just kidding.....a good smoke relieves stress and just lets me relax.....its like a mini vacation every time)
