Why I support the troops.

Amen to all the reasons y'all have stated, you have all touched on the reasons I support them and God bless all of you who serve or have served

I support the troops because they do what I believe I wish I could but were I faced with it in actuality, I have my doubts as to whether I would have the courage to do so.

That may not make sense to you guys, but I know what I mean.

I know exactly what your saying :tu

"Every good citizen makes his country's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it."

Andrew Jackson quotes (American 7th US President, 1767-1845)

A few years ago my wife and I went to DC to help in an effort to protect the wall from those who would wish to vandalize it during an anti war protest. For 2 days we stood with people from all walks of life, some veterans, family of active service members and general citizens such as ourselves. That weekend had a profound impact on my life.

So many names, fathers, sons, brothers, it changed me. Before that weekend I though of myself as a good citizen but realized that actions speak louder than words and for those in the service their actions speak every day. So as I wonder through this journey we call daily life I now take time to honor those who have and will give the things I, like you, only hope I could if needed.

I support the troops because it is the right thing to do.
I support the troops because it is the thing that must be done.
I support the troops because they support me.
I suport the troops because they deserve my support.
I support the troops because to do otherwise would be unacceptable.
I support the troops because I love them.
I support the troops because I love America.
I support the troops because they love America.

HOORAH!

I support the troops for each and every reason stated in the above posts. I really have nothing to add above the heartfelt reasons previously listed. I am eternally proud of my country and those brave folks who put their lives on the line to protect all the little things that me and my family take for granted every singe day. It's my way of saying THANK YOU!

I support the troops because I am an American.
I support the troops because, given the opportunity, how can you not?
I support the troops for my friend Alex

I support the troops to make another American feel a little bit of home while they do a job that we sent them to do. What a simple act is sending some cigars given what they give to us. I feel selfish more than anything, given the feeling that I get seeing the pictures of them enjoying the cigars.

Grandfather WWII

Cousin Hit by an IED on his way home from Iraq, blind and beat up for a few weeks. Re upped as soon as his eye sight came back and went back for another tour.

Friend Killed working for a private security company in Iraq by an IED. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Rod Richardson US Marine Corps.

There are plenty of people in the world that put their own desires first, not too many that put the needs of others before their own. Selfish people with always make sure they have plenty, but those who serve others are often overlooked. I support the troops because they deserve it, and it's the right thing to do.

I support the troops because I was a troop.

I support the troops because of my comrades and friends who never returned.

Friends like Mark G Stickels Sgt E-5, KIA Vietnam, April 4, 1968 101st ABN, 2nd/502nd Recon Platoon.

So many lost but never forgotten.

For those that never returned.

Roy Chitwood SSGT E-6, KIA Vietnam May 18, 1967 101st ABN, 2nd/502nd HHC Recon Platoon.

So many lost but never forgotten.

There's nothing more that I can add that hasn't already been eloquently stated above. There are many reasons to support our troops, because without them, we wouldn't have the freedoms that we enjoy on a daily basis.

It makes me smile knowing that I can bring a little bit of happiness to our fighting men and women overseas. It's my tiny way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that they make on a daily basis.

This thread is very moving.
I support the troops because I want to be doing as much or even a little more than I can. Like they are doing for us. I can't be serving along side of them but I can be behind them with a little help. I love seeing the pictures and hearing the stories from the troops on the receiving end of our support.

I support the troops because the they look forward to the boxes of goodies they receive. It gives them hope.

It makes them happy when they're doing a very difficult job that's not supported 100% and requires a huge measure of self sacrifice.

They are local boys that I know, or their families, and it keeps us all tied together, a community even separated and they in harm's way.

I support the troops because I was one of them... and in my heart I still am

I support the troops because as an American citizen they are mine and they are in all our care... they deserve no less

I support the troops because I know first hand what it's like to feel you are not appreciated for what you do...

you look after me and mine, I will look after you and yours

"of the troops and for the troops"

I support the troops for Chris... come home safe brother

Hoooah!!

I support the troops because their self-sacrifice is humbling.

I support the troops because my father was a wounded WWII Vet that taught me that our freedom comes with a price tag.

I support the troops because they are criticized and reviled by so many that do not understand the good they do.

I support the troops because I imagine them receiving a little taste of home that reminds them of all that they fight for.

I support the troops because I want them to know they are not forgotten.

I support the troops because of the friends here at CS who make it ridiculously easy to do a good deed - giving selflessly of their time to make it happen. :tu

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."

-Matthew Five Nine.

I pray for the troops every night. Every. Single. Night

I support the troops because they are the thin line ensuring that Americans everywhere are kept safe at night.

For those that never returned.

Roy Chitwood SSGT E-6, KIA Vietnam May 18, 1967 101st ABN, 2nd/502nd HHC Recon Platoon.

So many lost but never forgotten.

For those that never returned.

Vincent Caravello PFC E-3, KIA Vietnam May 21, 1968 101st ABN, 2nd/502nd HHC Recon Platoon.

So many lost but never forgotten.

I support the troops because it it the right thing to do.

I support the troops because they deserve it.

I support the troops because it makes feel as if I am (in such a small, minuscule way) helping to fight the enemies of our country.

I support the troops because they are my heroes.

I support the troops because my brother was in the Gulf War and he told me what anything from home meant to him.

I support the troops because there are millions the world over who enjoy freedom because of what they do.

I support the troops because there are so many others who take freedom for granted.

I support the troops because they stand watch over everything I hold dear.

I support the troops because it's a way to show appreciation.

I support the troops because it gives them a pleasurable diversion from the intense and dangerous job they do, and gives them a little piece of home for a few minutes.

I support the troops because of my late father, who served in World War II and the Korean War.

I serve the troops because of my uncle, a B-24 copilot who flew countless bombing missions over Germany in WW II to help end Nazi tyranny.

I support the troops in memory of my neighbor and friend, Byron A Gaines, Jr, PFC E2 USMC, KIA Quang Nam, South Vietnam, killed by a VC grenade 12/28/67. He had been in Vietnam for three months.

I support the troops because I did not serve. President Nixon ended the draft the very year that my draft group was to have been inducted.

I support the troops because I hope that one lesson Vietnam taught us is to be grateful for the service of military personnel, even if we do not agree with the war.
