Wine chilller vs Coolidor

I got mine a couple weeks ago, and did not plug any hole...am I losing moisture here, or is it just so condensation doesn't run off to the floor? It does seem that my beads are drying too quickly...

there is a drain pan at the back of the unit that the moisture will drain there. yes you are losing humidity. if it's not a completely sealed enclosure you will lose humidity.

Well guys,

Thanks for all the good discussion.

I went ahead and bought a Coleman Xtreme 100qt. cooler. I got it at a big discount and couldn't pass it up.

So for now, I am calibrating my new hygro, and the beads and my sticks/boxes are already in there. I also added a Oust fan, but I think I am going to mod it for better airflow.

The reason I went with the coolidor was mainly cost and maintenance. I started researching wine chillers and they do have run off. The run-off/condensation would be a major problem here in FL. Furthermore, the only space I would have for the wine chiller is my closet and it doesn't have a plug in it. And I am not running an extension cord or busting drywall. Then there is the difference of cost, which in my mind is a major factor.

After it's all set up and stable I'll take a few pics.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to put it in a closet... you need to make sure there's plenty of room for air intake.

Have fun filling it up!

I love my 28 bottle wine cooler. 2lbs of heartfelt beads, cedar shelves, thermastat at 65 degrees. I have a grand total of $220 invested. That includes a 135 mile round trip to pick it up, gas, and a chance to herf with a good friend (Muziq), a few coffees and empanadas:tu Not to mention, I have more storage room and piece of mind. I easily have a couple grand in smokes, maybe more. Like Darrell said, think long term and convinience. Coolers are cheap, but they are a pain in the ass. I know, I use to use them. Down the road, I will make the Aristocrat investment. It took me over a dozen years of being a BOTL and have never been more happy. :2

I'm sure this has been said many times over but save yourself the added cost of a wine chiller and buy a cooler. Unless you live in really hot climes, take the money you saved and buy more cigars :tu

Love this thing, Dgar. Just started getting into this "habit" and have now filled my 125 ct. humidor. I think something like this is going to be my next move.

I ordered this 28 bottle wine cooler for under $73 dollars.

Easily in the price range of a good cooler.

It hasn't arrived yet, so I don't have any hard internal dimensions, but I am now looking for a good source of spanish cedar. It would be nice if I could find a source in Washington State, in or near Pierce county.

I like the idea of channeling the condensation into the tray of beads.
