Xikar MTX Multi-Tool

Brooks Was Here
Hi all! I picked up these cigar scissors about a week ago and so far I absolutely love them. From the first time I laid eyes on these cigar scissors, I knew that I had to have a pair. Money has been a little tight and I already had a $2 double guillotine that seemed to cut cigars just fine. Now, it is birthday time for me and I found a brother on here selling his Xikar executive and MTX gift set. My wonderful girlfriend asked me if I wanted it and I said... YES!!!! So she got it for me as an early birthday present. Well, they came in and the scissors just didn't cut cigars worth a darn. I was getting major wrapper cracking and horribly uneven cuts on every cigar. I was really not liking my new toy:mad:. Then I picked up some philly blunts from the corner store and gave them the mangling they deserved. I cut on about 5 of those things trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then one night I was sleeping in my chair (I'm a lazy mofo when I get in my chair) and it came to me in my sleep. The whole time I have been trying to use the scissors like a guillotine cutter. I was placing the cigar in the center and just smashing it with the blades. Anyway, back to the epiphany. I was snoozing away and realized that they are called cigar scissors for a reason. I should cut the cigar like I was using scissors (I know this was duh, but my mind doesn't always work right, I don't know why). I immediately got up and got my scissors and a blunt and tried it out. Wow! It was like night and day. These things cut so sharp and even it just blew me away. I really love my scissors and think my palio will be very jealous from now on. They are light, compact and easy to carry around. They also cut amazingly well. I am so glad I like these scissors. When I started reading about them I noticed a lot of people didn't have much good to say about them, but you can rest assured that I love mine and they cut very well. All it takes is some patients and a little practice. Once you get the hang of them, I think you will really enjoy your Xikar MTX Multi-Tool. I know I do. :ss

Can you explain this more? Good review, btw.

I was putting the cigar right in the middle of the blades and trying to snip it. You have to put the cigar all the way to the pivot and use that shear point to start cutting the cigar. The way I was doing it before was like crushing the cigar. I will take some pictures for an example of each.

I have used the scissors and they might be the sharpest things I have ever cut a cigar with. I may actually pick up a pair now that you mention it. Nice review. So you mean instead of the finger holes you were pushing down on it the ends or what? Cuz that would be pretty funny.

FWIW, you might just need to have them sharpened. The Xi cutter seems to work the same way, where you don't even have the option of placing the cigar anywhere near the pivot. Send 'em back to Xikar and have them sharpened, then let us know how they work...

I didn't actually cut this cigar. That will probably be in a year or so!

These scissors are extremely sharp. There is just a technique to using them. Thanks for the info though! They work great, I don't think they need sharpening at all.

I have a pair and if something should happen I will have another pair. They cut wonderfully and the tools are nice to have also, a little blade to help remove bands, a bottle opener, a flat bladed screwdriver, and a small pick (that I have used as a draw modifier and to nub a cigar)

I was hoping for Volfan to give his opinion on his he got for Christmas..he was really looking forward to them in a couple posts he made:ss

Geez, I didn't even mention the handiness of the extra tools. The little poker to help with draw issues is a must have. It also works to release pressure from your lighter. It has a bottle opener, something any cigar smoker should not be without. The small blade to remove bands or anything that needs a good cuttin' (the blade is quite sharp, be careful kids). Last but not least, it has a flat screwdriver the perfect size for adjusting any lighter. They don't call it a Multi-tool for anything!

I did a quick how-to video on using scissors for anyone that might be on the fence about trying them.

You beat me to it Walt As I was reading I was thinking perfect thread to link to your review on the Stogie Review

I love my MtX have been using it for about a year and half. Recently picked up a Palio from Mark on the group buy so now I alternate cutters with the type of cigar I am going to smoke. Palio for toros, perfectos, torpedos and MTX for everything with a flat cap.

I've wanted to pick some of these up since they were first released. I've stuck with my swiss army cutter for a long time now....Think I might break down and pick up the MTX thanks to your review. Thanks bro.

I have the Xikar MTX as well, but leave it on my key chain for when I'm out at a bar or party.

At first I had the same problems with crushing the cigar at first, until I got the hang of using it. I do think my MTX needs to be sharpen but..this tool is very handy to have around, and I give it a ---> :tu
