Having 'discovered' the joy of smoking real cigars only about a month ago, and being even greener to this forum, this experience might seem mundane to some of you, but I have to share it. Having seen/read about a lot of you through past post I can only envy some of your experiences.... but I'll get there eventually. It's fascinating to me how so many different cigars can each have their own signature and distinct flavors. Every one of them I try is a whole new (1st time) experience to me, so pardon my enthusiasm. I've been looking at this one for a week now, and can't hold off any longer. Tonight I had my first OpusX. Here's my story...
I'm watching my beloved Dolphins tonight, playing at Carolina. I know its only pre-season, but I tell myself as soon as the Dolphins score a TD I'm lighting this puppy (delayed gratification, sort of). Third quarter, finally, Harrington to Chambers... TD!! Opus time. I'm mostly a beer, Jack, or Captain kind of guy, but tonight I felt like something sweet. Hmm, Drambuie on the rocks sounds good. Take my drink and my X and off to my back porch. It rained today, but tonight its real clear, no wind, and real peaceful outside. Perfect night.
I smell it, the aroma stands out, over anything else I have. I cut the tip, take a pre-lit draw. Kind of salty, but nice and very easy. I take a sip of my drink, sweet, cold, smooth. I light it. Perfect light, not one spot unlit. Take my first draw.............. heaven. I wondered if everything I had read about this was just 'yadda-yadda-yadda' or was there more to it. Well now I can say it's real. This was unbelievable. Perfect draw, perfect burn, perfect construction, and taste.... oh my God. I found it sort of had a creamy sweetness, with some light pepper and even a bit of citrus, which surprised me, but tasted fantastic. For me, a remarkable experience. I'm sure many of you have had that several times.... again I envy you, but I'll get there. This was my first like it.
Half way into my cigar, my wife comes out and tries to start a conversation. I forego trying to explain this 'nirvana' her, and ask her to just sit with me, without talking. Amazingly, she does. My sweetheart cuddles up next to me quietly, and justs sits with me, enjoying the peaceful night. And me with my 'X'. I think I can even hear Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" playing in the background.
And they lived happily ever after... The End.
Peace
ps I don't know how the Dolphin game ended..... and I don't care.
