A weird step in the smoking process

I've seen a couple of folks do this as well. Since one was my boss' boss, I didn't think it would improve my career path if I asked him WTF he was doing to the cuban I just gifted him.
Having said that, I usually stick the cigar in mouth (in the regular smoking position) before I cut it, as it helps keep the wrapper from unravelling if I miscut. No tongue involved, however.

I have seen thisa few times and asked wtf they were doing (without the wtf)... the response I dot was.....it moistens the wrapper so you get a slower burn, you an enjoy the cigar longer...

i letit go at that, but that, i guees, is how some people view it

My experience in this has been two-fold:

1). I grew up watching the Rifleman do this on the cigarettes he rolled as well as other western personalities

2). The only time I personally have ever done anything close is when I get a stick, normally at the drug store, that is so dry it is already flaking that you try to moisten some part so that it doesnt come apart in your hands having said this...

I dont think it is a good idea unless you really "need" it to smoke a sub-par stick.

Just my two cents.

my grandpa used to do that with the cheap drug store brands...swisher sweets ect. those arent kept in optimal conditions (humidified) so I guess I can see where someone could think that it helps, but...

ANY MAN THAT TONGUE RAPES A REAL CIGAR SHOULD BE IMMEDIATLY

I always lick mine right before chomping into them

I have seen is practice a few times also. I just thought "wtf" to myself and went on with my business. At first I thought the guy loved the cigar so much that he was making out with it, because he was going to town on that stick!

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to do this with a cigar... and there are plenty of downsides, too, including improper burn (in addition to it just being nasty to watch heh).

Old school guys lick the cigar. My grandfather and uncles all used to/still do it. Back in the day they didn't have any real humidification element (think apple core) so the stogies weren't always in great shape to smoke. Wetting the wrapper would humidify it just a bit more. Not really necessary anymore..

My brother did this the first time we sat and had a cigar...so I slapped him...he asked me WTF for the slap...I told him to never deep throat ANYTHING!!! He told me his friend does it and it makes the cigar burn better....I slapped him again...he saked me WTF for the slap...I told him never take advice from someone who believes alcohol improves the way he drives...and someone with 4 D.U.I.s and no drivers license, no high school diploma, or a job that allows him the ability to move out of his parents house, and from someone who considers the Backwoods to be "the finest Stogies on the Market!" My brother agreed.
